Kids Heart Challenge - In an effort to continue our support of the American Heart Association, we will be doing the Kids Heart Challenge again this year. However, it will be much more modified than in years past. We hope you are able to join us this year. All children should have received their packets some time this week. I would like to ask that all donations be turned in before we leave for spring break. Thanks again for all of your support of this great program and we hope to build on the total of over $250,000 that Geist Elementary has raised over the past years.
Also, If your child has not received prizes from last years event, please let me know ASAP.

From the Music Room
Music Performance Attire:
All classes will wear the following on the day they are recording their music performance in class. Students will wear black pants, navy pants, black jeans, or dark blue jeans preferably with no stripes if possible. I have no intention of you buying anything so hopefully you have something at home that will work. Then I would like for everyone to wear the green gator gallop T-shirt from this year with the white gator wearing the mask. If you do not have the green gallop T shirt, I will try my hardest to provide one. On a side note, if you have an extra green Gator Gallop T or wouldn't mind me to borrowing yours when your student doesn't have music, I'd LOVE to borrow it. I'll wash them after each use. I would really like every student to feel a part of the performance. If you want to know which week your student needs to wear their performance attire, please refer to the music newsletter below that was sent out a few weeks ago. I will let you know the exact date the weekend before your student is recording. Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions and/or if you have a T-shirt I could borrow. Mrs. K, Music Teacher

ILEARN Testing - Grades 3 & 4
The GES 3rd and 4th grade teachers have worked hard to prepare students for the approaching ILEARN Testing window from Monday, April 19th through Friday, May 14th. GES Gators we are ready to show'em what we've got!
The Indiana Department of Education requires students to participate in the Spring ILEARN assessment in-person, there will not be a remote testing option for ILEARN.
We welcome all GES virtual students the opportunity to test with their teacher and classmates. We would like your help as we prepare for the ILEARN assessment by completing the 2021 GES Virtual Third and Fourth Grade Students: ILEARN.
To prep your student’s iPad for this assessment we will need you to download the “SecureTestBrowser” app. The app can be found here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/airsecuretest/id607002517
Students with a HSE Rental device will have the app pushed out to the device automatically.
More specific details regarding the ILEARN Practice Test and Operational Test Schedule will be communicated when we return from Spring Break.
Thoughtful Placement for 2021-22
Your child's current grade level team is instrumental in creating a balanced classroom group of students for the following school year based on social and emotional, academic/learning, and personality needs of each student.
Completing the Thoughtful Placement Request 2021-22 form, for special circumstances, will assist teachers and administration in determining classroom placements for the following school year.
We value parent input in identifying the most positive classroom environment. Through the placement request, parents can share areas of strengths and challenges, and how a particular environment would best meet their child's needs. With a school population of 650+ students it is not possible for us to accept specific teacher requests. We appreciate your help in submitting your request with this form instead of an email to Guidance and Administration. Please know, final class placement decisions rest with the building administration.
School Supply Kits for 2021-22 School Year
It is already time to begin thinking about next school year! The PTO is excited to share the opportunity to support GES students and teachers with the purchase of a school supply kit. All the supplies have been carefully chosen by the grade level teachers.
You can also purchase additional classroom supplies, such as sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, and zip top bags that are not included in the kits but needed (and appreciated) as classroom supplies.
Go to www.shopttkits.com and type in the account number: 32455 to order your grade level kit and extra supplies! You have until 5/14/21 to order.

Traveling Abroad? Guidelines for a Safe Return to School
If you plan to travel outside the United States, the CDC offers recommendations for a safe return to the U.S. and school:
- Get tested 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for 7 days after travel.
- Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days.
- If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected. (10 days isolation from start of symptoms or test date, whichever occurs first)
- If you don’t get tested, it’s safest to stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
- Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days, whether you get tested or not.
