What is BIPOLAR DISORDER

Type of Depressive Disorder

Manic Signs/Symptoms

-racing speech/thoughts

-increasing need for sleep

-elevated mood/exaggerated optimism

-increased physical/mental activity

-excessive irritability/aggressive behavior/impatience

-poor judgement

- reckless behavior (excessive speeding, making rash decisions, erratic driving)

-difficulty concentrating

-inflated sense of self-importance

-loss of interest in usual activities

-prolonged sad/irritable mood

-loss of energy/fatigue

-feelings of guilt/worthlessness

-sleeping too much/inability to sleep

-drop in grades/inability to concentrate

-appetite loss/overeating

-anger/worry/anxiety

-thoughts of death/suicide

  • there are no laboratory tests(brain scan,blood test)

  • No real treatment
  • Stabilize (mood stabilizers)
  • Treatment Plan(receive medications, mood stabilizers, counseling, offer medications/help)
