Weekly Wrap Up
Benedict A. Cucinella School 4/22/2022
Week 27:
Happy Sunday, Cucinella Families!
I hope you found some time this weekend to enjoy the spring sunshine.
Last week Cucinella added another first to our list with our in-person Talent Show! This year's Talent Show was once again hosted by Mrs. Jessica DeCicco. A big THANK YOU to Jess for putting on another amazing show! Our fantastic students showcased their talents by singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments. And boy, did they bring it! I would also like to send a shout out to our fifth grade students who helped by emceeing the show and assisting with the curtain and other stage crew tasks. At the end of the show the fifth graders were given an opportunity to share their thoughts on what they would miss at BAC - what a wonderful ending to a terrific show! Thank you to all of our parents and family members who came out to support our students, and to those of you who helped by making programs, checking people in, and helping with the students back stage. The show couldn't go on without the joint efforts of all involved! Congrats to all our participants!

NJSLA Students in Grades 3 through 5 will be taking the NJSLA state assessments during the month of May. May 10th and 11th students will be taking the ELA portion of the test. May 12th, 17th & 18th students will take the Mathematics portion, and May 24th through 26th, the fifth grade students will be taking the Science section of the test. More information will be provided closer to the dates of the assessment. Parents can find more information HERE including parent resources, tutorials, sample items, and practice tests. | Earth Day: Friday, BAC celebrated Earth Day! Students across the grade levels participated in various activities connected to the district science curriculum which also focused on our Earth and our environment. Students went on nature walks, used sidewalk chalk to write messages about how to keep our Earth safe, and spent time observing some live creatures. (Our kindergarten students are thoroughly enjoying checking out the guppies and goldfish in their current science unit!) Not to worry - there are many other live creatures currently within the walls of Cucinella (or coming soon) including meal worms, silkworms and crayfish to name a few. In addition, we have continued to make progress on our Courtyard Garden. Ms. Swain has been working with various teachers and students to begin the planting process. Students are involved in planting the seeds within their classrooms which enables them to follow along in the growing process. Eventually the sprouted plants will be transferred to our outdoor garden. The bird bath has been installed, and this week we will be hanging our bee houses to attract needed pollinators. Thank you again to all who have supported this fantastic project! | CEP Reboot - Summer 2022ATTENTION to parents of special education children in the community :) CEP reboot is under new leadership working alongside Cheryl, Beth and Kathleen with this transition. We are in hopes to offer the CEP program the last 2 weeks of ESY in July but we need your help!!! Please fill out the attached survey if you are interested in this amazing inclusion camp that has been running for over 30 years!!! With the results of the survey we will be able to plan how many teachers, counselors, and volunteers that would be needed to reboot after being on hold for two summers. CEP is available to children of residents of Washington Township Long Valley ages 3 to 13 who have been classified by the Washington Township School System as needing special education, related services, have a 504 accommodation or who are in private therapy. Siblings are also welcomed. We will apply a 10% discount to any additional siblings. |
