Easley Weekly Update
Everything You Need to Know For The Coming Week
October 4th, 2020
A Note from the principal
I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend and the gorgeous Fall weather that is upon us!
This Wednesday is an Early Release Day and school will dismiss two hours early. There will be no instruction after 12:15 PM.
Remote Learning - Looking Forward
Both our school team and the district have reflected on the first quarter, thinking about what's worked and what hasn't and have sought feedback from our families. As we move into the second quarter, starting on October 20th, there will be some tweaks and adjustments.
The specials schedule will continue to be asynchronous and will be posted weekly by the classroom teachers. We are excited to have both Mrs. Galgano and Mrs. Haas back from maternity leave for the second quarter. During the second quarter, the specials teachers will periodically host (approximately twice a month) whole grade level specials classes where students will have the opportunity to interact with the whole specials team. For example, Mrs. Haas may prepare a music activity that the whole grade level will be invited to and the other specials teachers will be present in the Zoom to help facilitate and engage with the students. In order to for consistency across the school we are suggesting the following school-wide specials scheduled:
Monday - Music
Tuesday - Art
Wednesday - Guidance
Thursday - PE
Friday - Media or Technology (depending on the week)
However, given that specials classes are during asynchronous learning time, there is always the flexibility for you to chose what specials class you do each day. Just note that the whole grade Special activity will be on the assigned day. More information will be coming as we get closer to the second quarter.
We will continue to provide Wellness Wednesday activities for students and Zoom sessions with the counselor. In the spirit of Wellness Wednesday we will no longer hold required morning meeting sessions on Wednesday; however, each classroom teacher will host an optional classroom session focusing on wellness, connecting with their peers, and building community. The times will vary by grade level and classroom and your child's teacher will let you know the exact time. No class will meet earlier than 8:30 AM.
Common Lunch Time
Every student will have a common lunch time of 11:45-12:45 PM. No instruction or meetings will be scheduled during this time.
To accommodate the new lunch schedule we had to make some minor adjustments to our daily instructional schedule. This new schedule will be posted in next week's update and will include new office hours and the Wellness Wednesday classroom sessions.
