~Third Grade Teachers
What are we doing next week?
- Reading – Students will learn to make inferences with pictures, literature, and informational text.
- Writing – Students are working on a narrative writing piece. This week we will work on adding elaboration and using examples related to our 5 senses to make our writing more interesting. Students will learn to use transition words to connect thoughts and paragraphs. We will focus on the importance of word choice and practice using vivid verbs and specific nouns when we write.
- Word Study/Spelling - This week will be a Word Work (spelling) skill week. Students will receive their spelling list and should complete the sort and review activities each night. Our focus this week will be common Long and Short O spelling patterns.
- Grammar - Next week we will continue exploring nouns. Students will be working with possessive nouns.
- Math – Next week we will continue to learn about addition. Students will practice the different strategies they have used to add. We will have our Addition Test on Friday.
- Social Studies - We will continue with our Georgia Regions and Habitats unit, as well as the plants and animals that live/survive in each one. Our Habitat Vocabulary Quiz will be on Tuesday, September 15. You can study the vocabulary words on Quizlet - Quizlet Habitats Vocabulary. Another fun link: YouTube Georgia Habitat Song video made/sung by a 3rd grade Georgia teacher. . Our Habitat unit test will be on Thursday, September 17. Science interactive notebooks should home daily for review each night.

Our Fall Scholastic Book Fair is coming in two weeks (Sept. 14 - 18)! Our PTA Book Fair Fairies will transform our media center into a fun, whimsical, monster under the bed explosion. The best part is we get to shop great books all week long! Parents and Grandparents are welcome to attend and shop throughout the week. Shopping times are from 8:30 - 2:30. Be sure to contact your child's teacher for their specific time to shop so you can select books together.
