Information for the week of March 30th - April 3rd
Message to parents and students from Mrs. Harding,
I wanted to let you know how much the staff at GTMS misses each and every one of our students. Although our school building may be closed, our hearts are open to the needs of our students and teachers stand ready to connect with students and help continue their learning. Please make sure that your student is checking their email regularly for teacher updates and invitations to connect virtually. We are working to meet the needs of students who do not have internet access or a device to use. Information will be coming soon on how we may best be able to meet the needs of all learners. In the mean time, please call the main office at 757-242-3229 if you have any questions and an administrator will get back with you within 24 hours. Once again, we miss you, and we hope you are staying safe and healthy!
Mrs. Harding
-Principal

For Parents of Kindergartners through 8th graders:
As we approach the end of the second week of school closures, we have an update for you on plans for continued learning throughout the remainder of the academic year. For students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade, principals will be sharing grade specific 5Cs challenges created by our Instructional Coaches and published virtually. Our teachers are monitoring their email daily and you can reach out to them if you have questions about the 5 Cs challenge and review material. If you do not have access to email, you can call your child’s school and leave a message for the principal. The 5 Cs--critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and citizenship--are a focus of Virginia’s Profile of a Graduate and the Isle of Wight County Schools’ Strategic Plan. These activities will continue to engage students from March 30 through April 10. Isle of Wight County Schools will be recognizing the week of April 13 as spring break and, as such, no instructional activities are planned for that week. We will, however, be continuing our feeding program during this time.
Beginning on Monday, April 20, students will begin new learning. Details for new learning will be shared with all families next week. Our teachers will be using the time between now and April 20 to plan for new learning.
We are scheduling times for parents to pick up student items that may have been left at school. Your principal will be reaching out to you with specific information on how that process will be handled.
Thank you for supporting your child and keeping them safe during this challenging time. Please keep in touch with your child’s teachers if you have any questions about the continued learning activities.

Director of Community and Media Relations

****Parents and students****
Parents, please have your student complete the Student Internet Survey below so that we may adequately provide the appropriate distance learning material for you! Please complete one survey per child. If a survey is not completed, you will receive a phone call from your child's homeroom teacher to gather the information.
Coronavirus Update
Parent Information Update
Over the summer, our student information system, PowerSchool, went through a significant upgrade. One of the changes affected how contact information (phone numbers, email addresses) is stored in PowerSchool, which, in turn, impacted how Connect 5 pulls this information. We have been made aware that some of our families may not be receiving emails to primary, or multiple, email addresses, or possibly calls to certain numbers. These issues can be resolved by setting up a Parent Portal Account in Connect 5. To do this, you will need your child's school ID number to complete the process. Just follow the detailed steps on the attached document found at the bottom of this message. If you previously created an account, it's possible that you need to associate your child to the account, or you may need to update your contact information. The document will walk you through those steps as well. If you have any issues creating or updating your account, please call the main office at 757-242-3229. You may also drop by and office staff can update the information for you. Please be sure to bring a valid ID.
