What are Dystopias?

A Dystopia is an exaggerated, future setting used in literature to criticize current norms or systems. They are imagined universes where the illusion of a perfect society is maintained through total control.

Types of Control In Dystopias

1. Bureaucratic Control

Society is controlled by tons of regulations and dumb government officials. One example of this was Apartheid in Africa.

2. Philosophical/Religious control

Society is controlled from philosophical or religious beliefs of the leader. An example of this type of control was Nazi Germany.
