Good afternoon to all in our St Bernadette’s Community and welcome back to Term 3!

It has been great start and I have loved being out the front and watching your children bounding into school with big smiles on their faces! Our classes have hit the ground running with plenty of fun, engaging learning and I thank them for their hard work and preparation over the holidays to ensure our students are getting the most out of their school day.

This week our Year 5 class entertained up with their assembly on the story of the Three Trees, and on Wednesday we also had a number of Year 3-6 students out on the oval for Runners Club. Mr Watson, Mrs Bowe, Mrs Garrad and myself set the students a challenge to do some regular running over the holidays and we have been really impressed with some of their efforts. We are all looking forward to our Cross-Country Carnivals later in the term.

On Monday our staff welcomed Brendan Spillane to facilitate a PL session focusing on School Culture to drive our school improvement. Our staff worked in different teams to evaluate what our culture looks like now and to start the conversation about what our priorities need to be in the future; looking specifically at the four pillars of Catholic Education in WA: Catholic Identity, Education, Community and Stewardship. As the principal of the school, it was great to see the passion and engagement of our staff, who genuinely love our school and want to be part of this constant improvement journey. It was a great way to start our term!

Finally, can I please give everyone a gentle reminder to be thinking about our school values of Kindness, Honesty and Respect in every conversation and interaction. I have had a few reports of disagreements between parents in our carpark and I urge everyone to be calm and patient when entering and exiting the school. We do our best to keep the drive-through lanes flowing and we are always pretty clear by 3.15pm. Not too bad for 480 students and their families!

Have a great weekend and say a little prayer for me… I am that friend who owns a ute, so I will be helping a mate move house!
