Ed Pathway Guest Speaker (2/09/2023): Mike Love [MMHS Retired & Current SDSU Prof]
Michael Love retired in June 2020 after 27 years as a classroom educator and over 40 years of working with young people in many capacities throughout Spring Valley and various communities in Southeast San Diego.
He is the founder of Love Power Educational Consultants LLC., a group formed around a number of discussions among Black male educators that talked about two major themes: one, to support new, young Black male educators as they grow into the profession and, two, to encourage young Black males to consider education as a career and support them once they so choose.
Mr. Love met with our Education Pathway Studennts to examine the purpose of school/education as well as to consider how inequities impact student outcomes.
One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish
This month, our education pathway students are studying children's books with the help of Dr. Hicks! Specifically, they are learning how to analyze children's books and how to write them as well!
Who knows, we might have a future children's book author on our hands!

Getting Ready for the College Fair!
Every year our Helix First Departments hosts a college fair for our Junior class so that students have the opportunity to learn more about colleges they can apply to during their Senior year.
The freshman class is in charge of researching their assigned college/university, creating merch, and presenting their findings at the college fair.
Here you'll see Helix First students in the EDGE lab making shirts, stickers, and buttons for their booths!
Job Site Visits!
Fourteen of our very own ACE club members got the opportunity to visit 2 construction sites: Loma Verde Community Center located in Chula Vista and RADD (Research and Development District) located in Downtown San Diego. It was amazing to get hands on experiencs with sites and to see how the professionals really do it. This trip was especially compelling for those who went on the same trip last year as they got to see the amazing progress made on the RADD site compared to the last time they were there.
