SDE Announces That Teachers Are In Phase 1B Vaccine Schedule
The South Carolina Department of Education announced this week that educators and staffers will be able to get the COVID-19 vaccine in Phase 1B.
Officials say Phase 1B will begin once 70% of South Carolinians identified in Phase 1A have gotten vaccinated.
School nurses are able to receive the vaccine in Phase 1A. Read the story below (In the News) about the number of employees in Florence 1 Schools who have already received the vaccine through a partnership with McLeod.
Dr. O'Malley Meets with Members of Professional Organization
Dr. O'Malley entertained questions submitted to McCrae by Florence 1 teachers and members of the association.
The topic of discussion, Educator Needs from the District, focused on the following:
- What resources do you need from Florence 1 Schools?
- What kind of professional development would be beneficial to teachers?
- What can Dr. O'Malley do to facilitate other needed improvements for classroom teachers?

Sprawls is Semifinalist in 2021 US Senate Youth Program
The final round of the competition will take place this month (January). Two delegates and two alternates will be selected to represent South Carolina in Washington, D.C. For more information about the program, visit www.ussenateyouth.org.

National Organization offers Webinar on Quality Lesson Design at a Distance
The National Education Association (NEA) invites teachers to join as it explores PK-12 ed-tech tools while also considering what quality lesson design at a distance looks like.
The upcoming webinar will share how guidelines like The Triple E Framework (Dr. Liz Kolb) are used to figure out how well favorite tools are helping to engage students while enhancing and extending their learning goals.
Monday, January 11th from 7 – 8pm EST is when the event will be held, and participants may join from anywhere.

For the second year in a row, two Florence County Adult Education staff members have been selected to present at the Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE) annual conference. Director Carol Hill and College and Career Navigator Anne Stone will present a session called Paraphrases: A Key to Collaboration at All Levels.
The virtual COABE conference will be held March 22-24, 2021. COABE’s mission is to inspire educators so adults succeed and communities thrive.
