NEWS FROM OUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR MRS. CALDWELL

Children hear all kinds of messages about the kind of people they should be from friends, family members, neighbors, media, etc. I love when I am teaching SEL lessons and a student says, “Hey, that’s what my mom said!” and I always reply with something like, “Your mom is right!” The fact is we are all in this together and it takes a village to help our kids grow to their fullest potential.

Children learn character by the values we teach, our words, and even the way we correct them. They see our daily interactions with others and learn what acceptable character is. As adults, we need to be conscious of what we are teaching, purposely or not. Never forget, they are always watching and learning from us.

Message from our School Librarian

A library should be a place to learn and explore new ideas. This past week in the library we opened up new opportunities for students to think. As always, I encourage students to use the library to check out books and read but I am hoping to incorporate additional possibilities for deep thinking as well. We have had 3 chess boards donated which are greatly appreciated but we would love more. I’d also like to open a Rubik's cube art space (where students work together to change the face of many Rubik's cubes to create a mosaic picture together according to a pattern). I realize that growing our makerspaces in the library will take time and money but eventually I’d like to incorporate Keva planks or Legos so kids can explore engineering and problem solve. I love that books can motivate learning in every area and I am eager to provide opportunities for kids to process what they learn in a more hands-on environment. If you are willing and able to donate, we would greatly appreciate it. We are working on creating a link for donations to our library which will be coming soon. If you prefer to donate chess, checkers, Rubik's cubes, Keva planks or have something else to donate I’d welcome those donations as well. Thank you for helping to grow our library and provide meaningful experiences for our kids.
