DIARY OF DAWSON SCHOOL

November 24, 2020

Weekly Update

Dear Dawson Community,

During this time of thanks, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the entire Dawson Community. Everyone's support has been what drives us to move forward with grace and compassion during this unique time. I recognize that it is not easy and can be difficult - very difficult, but if we as a community stick together, we will be stronger in the end. In December, some parents and Dawson staff members will come up with some fun and engaging family events..so stay tuned!

Starting on 11/30/2021, the children will be on a new remote schedule to provide more structure and robust learning (see .pdf file at the end of this newsletter, and also located on the Dawson webpage). The teachers will be sending home the schedules today. Specials are now going to be 40 minutes long, which is in line with the Hybrid schedule. Lunch and recess will be from 12:00-12:45 each day as well. Dawson wants to implement this new schedule to get the children ready for 1/19/2021, as this schedule mirrors what a typical day looks like here at school. I can assure you that the teachers will provide the students with screen breaks to work on skills throughout the day.

Another change in the schedule is that Wednesday afternoons will no longer be a half-day for students. All students will have asynchronous work to complete during the afternoon.

I will be sending home a survey in mid-December to get feedback moving forward.

Beginning the week of November 30th, I will be scheduling some blocks of time for students to lunch/ snack or just chat with me. Moving forward, I will also be scheduling a Principal Coffee/ Check-In at least bi-weekly for the foreseeable future. I am thinking that will be scheduled for Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM. The first one will be on December 8, 2020.

I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your family!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Wallace
