Students Showing Gettys Greatness

We have a number of award-winning students that are showing #GettysGreatness and we would like to recognize them for their outstanding work!

October Students of the Month

November Students of the Month

The Gettys Middle School Student Recognition Program's focus for October was kindness and November's focus was kindness. Each student was nominated by one of their teachers. Each month there will be a colorful display in the cafeteria, grade level announcements/hall posters and school-wide monitors featuring the student's names. Each student will receive their display item, a coupon and GMS PTO supplied treat at the end of each month.

Mrs. Dill and Mrs. Stubblefield Recognized as November Teachers of the Month

With 14 nominations each, our November Teacher of the Month is a tie between 7th Grade English Teacher, Mrs. Stubblefield and 6th Grade English Teacher Mrs. Dill.

Kara-Ann Zamor chose Mrs. Stubblefield because she always finds a way to fill her students with joy. Even if you've had a bad day, when you enter her classroom, it feels like all of those negative feelings go away. Kara-Ann has a message for all of the 6th graders. She said, “I hope you get Mrs. Stubblefield next year. SHE IS THE BEST!”

Mailey Lopez said that everytime Mrs. Dill sees that you are not okay, she makes a smile on your face which is exactly what Mailey thinks teachers should do. Mailey said her older brother Jayson had Mrs. Dill, and he agrees that Mrs. Dill is loving, kind, and amazing! Mailey may give Dr. Cory a run for his money for the job of principal of Gettys Middle School. She ended her nomination with his quote, “Make it a great day.” Congratulations Mrs. Dill and Mrs. Stubblefield!

Mrs. Vaughn Recognized as October Teacher of the Month

Our October Teacher of the Month is 6th Grade Science Teacher, Mrs. Vaughn. 23 students nominated Mrs. Vaughn for this honor. Olivia Dotson said that Mrs. Vaughn always makes regular things exciting and is one of the nicest people she knows, but she is also very serious about her students’ education. Many students commented Mrs. Vaughn’s honesty, courage, and her ability to make learning fun through experiments. Tanner Graham said that she isn't scared to light a napkin on fire if that’s what it takes to get her point across. Congratulations to Mrs. Vaughn!

Visual Art Students Skateboard Designs on Display

Gettys Middle Honors Our Veterans

It is a tradition that our school honors Veteran’s Day and our students viewed a virtual program by our Fine Arts Department coordinated by Ms. Atkins. Our school’s namesake Richard H. Gettys served in the military as well as former student Capt. Kimberly Hampton whose service is honored every time you visit the public library. GMS honored our current teachers like 6th grade teacher Ms. Arnold, 8th grade teacher Mr. Reddick, school nurse Mrs. Butts, and STEM teacher Dr. Yemothy who all have served in the military.
