Were Better Than The Media

Social Media affects self image and causes distractions

Media causes a lot of problems but no one ever stops and thinks about it when they go on Instagram, Snapchat or Facebook to think of the issues that social media is causing. Something that is becoming more of a problem is self image. You wouldn’t think that eating would be a problem let alone it would “have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness”(Hill). It doesn’t sound like it could be a problem but sadly it is. In the article The Weight of it: the burden of eating disorders it states “‘ That's impact. The thin beauty ideal is just part of the that leads to harmful eating, exercise, and substance abuse to change one's body’". Woman don't think that they are pretty enough which makes them not confident and not love the way that they look. On the other hand men look through their feed and see all these masculine men that look powerful and dominate. They put themselves down for not looking like that and then begin to over diet and exercise.

Social Media causes people to hate the way they look. Eating disorders is a mental illness that can be fixed. Teachers, doctors, other adults, and friends "can offer the help that we are experienced to provide; a variety of books, websites, blogs, and other materials exist to share"(Hills). Also just stating the problem can help out a lot. Another way to solve self image is instead of having extremely skinny models having the models look like normal fit woman. In men's case having them not as masculine and look like every day men. Some fashion designers decided to do something "Victoria - who has long had to put up with criticism of her own weight - was reported to have banned super-thin models from her show"(too skinny). If more fashion designers won't let extremely skinny models model that would make a big difference. Also if people spent the time to talk about eating disorders it would effect having less people with that disorder.

Media distracts lots of humans while driving. It causes more wrecks because they aren't paying attention to what they are doing. “As part of National Distracted Driving Month, the American Trucking Associations is urging motorists to put their cell phones away and focus on safe driving while behind the wheel of a moving vehicle. "Each year, thousands of people are killed in crashes related to distractions," says ATA President and CEO Bill Graves. "We urge motorists to put down their phones and keep their eyes and minds on the road." According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 3,100 people were killed and another 424,000 were injured in distraction-related crashes in 2013, while an improvement over the previous year, ATA still believes more needs to be done”(ATA Urges).

If everyone stopped texting while driving wrecks would be decreased by a lot. It also effects in the wrecks around you. “ Stay Focused--keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road at all times. One small distraction can cause an accident. Put Electronics Away--Put your cell phone away, as well as all electronics, while behind the wheel. Nothing is more important than getting to your destination safely”(ATA Urges). We should have everyone stay off their phone. Everyone should have enough self control to put their phone down.
