Valedictorian & Salutatorian
Valedictorian - Quan Vu
Quan embodies what it means to be a Chelsea community member and scholar. He is a first-generation Vietnamese student and the youngest of three boys to all graduate from CHS. He is an active member of several clubs and athletic teams: Student Council, NHS, Interact Club, Track, Flute Section Leader in Concert Band and Percussion Ensemble and has been a student member on CHS hiring committees. Academically, Quan’s capabilities are exceptional. Throughout his time at Chelsea High School, he has maintained a rigorous course load full of honors, AP and Bunker Hill Community College courses while achieving high honor roll and maintaining a weighted GPA of 4.7. Not only is he strong academically, but he is the most humble, hardworking and selfless student. This year he approached high school parent liaison Jay Velez with the idea of running 8th grade tours. Quan handled the logistics and through meetings with Jay Velez they were able to schedule and implement 8th grade tours during April break. Quan was more than willing to give up his April break to help show incoming 9th grade students how great CHS is. Next year, Quan will be attending Tufts University and majoring in Computer Engineering.
Salutatorian - Jeffrey Ponce Lopez
Jeffrey is a thoughtful, determined student, and an important leader in the CHS community. Academically, Jeffrey has excelled at CHS, and his rigorous coursework in the STEM area has sparked his passion to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the fall. In addition to his impressive academic achievements, Jeffrey is an all star athlete on our football and track teams. Jeffrey is also a proud member of the National Honor Society, and works with CET, a community service group in Chelsea in his spare time. In addition, Jeffrey impressively balanced part-time jobs throughout his high school career, working at Market Basket and with our very own IT department.
Military & Early College/Dual Enrollment
According to two student reports, two Chelsea High School students will be enlisting in the Military. Nicolas Morales Munar (pictured on the left) will enlist in the United States Marine Corps, and Ruben Padilla (pictured on the right) will enlist in the United States Navy.
We're also incredibly proud of our Early College and Dual Enrollment students from this year. Two hundred students from CHS participated in the Early College Program with Bunker Hill Community College. Of these 200 students, 79 are members of the Class of 2022. This group of 79 seniors earned 456 college credits equaling approximately 152 courses, saved over $28,272 on tuition and fees and saved another $40,000 on books, and the average number of college credits earned per graduate was approximately 6.
The City of Chelsea-BHCC scholarship was awarded to 21 Seniors; the full amount awarded to the 21 Seniors was $108,000; this community scholarship is given to students who have successfully completed a minimum of 12 credits in the CHS-BHCC Early College Program and continue to reside in Chelsea. Many of these students would not be able to continue their path to an Associate’s Degree due to financial obstacles without this community’s support.
