GREEN MEADOW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECT
The Green Meadow Elementary School project team has submitted its second MSBA submission! This submission is called the Preferred Schematic Report (PSR) and it advances the initial existing conditions verification, educational visioning & programming and Owner / Community coordination into multiple design alternatives, shows MSBA the design alternative evaluation process taken by the project team, and highlights which design alternative was ultimately selected at the end of the process.
Veteran's Day Celebration
On November 10th, 2022, we will be celebrating our veterans with a PTO sponsored breakfast followed by a Gratitude Parade. The breakfast will be taking place in the Green Meadow cafeteria at 9:15 am.
Students in the third grade will sing several songs that they have been practicing and students from other grades will be reading some positive affirmations that they have created to honor our veterans. Please wear red, white and blue to help us celebrate.
School Safety Drills
Procedures for a Safety Drill are as follows:
- All staff will sweep hallways, lock doors, turn off lights. Move students into the safe spot in their classroom. Remind students that this is just a time to practice. Any student who comes back to class during the Safety Drill should be let into the classroom. All staff should sweep students in the hallway into their spaces and reassure them that this is a drill and they are safe
- Officer McCann and another MPD officer will walk around the building to take note of anything that could be improved. They will not rattle door handles or act as intruders.
- Safety Drill - an opportunity to practice locking down and hiding in the classroom
- Safety Evacuation Drill - an opportunity to practice running from the building and following directions
- Stay in Place - an opportunity for students to practice staying where they are in the event of a medical emergency
- LOCKDOWN, Intruder in the building - an opportunity for students to practice locking down immediately and assess whether or not it is safe to leave the building.
Our goal with a drill is to practice. Staff need the opportunity to process what steps would be taken in a real emergency situation. Students need the opportunity to practice and learn that they are safe at school. We can control the environment and use the drill as a learning experience. We do not want to create a situation that traumatizes our students. For these drills, we will not use the language Stay in Place because that implies staying in your classrooms and continuing with everyday events. In a real school intruder event, nothing will be controlled and depending on the scenario, communication will be the best it can be. The term Safety Drill equates to Fire Drill, which is a familiar and safe experience for students.

Library Strategic Plan Surveys
The Maynard Public Library is developing a new strategic plan to guide our work for the next five years. Broad community input is essential to this plan, and we're inviting people to participate in a survey to give voice to their hopes, needs, and opinions about the library and the role it plays in the town.
Our general survey is available online here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/maylib. And we have a teen-specific survey available here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/mayteen.
We have a paper survey for kids, attached here, as well as paper versions of the general and teen surveys, all of which people can pick up and drop off at the library
