If You Served in the Military, Please Join us for Veteran's Day
Parents, Families and Important People,
Prestwick STEM Academy will be honoring Veteran’s Day on Monday, November 11, 2019. We would like to invite our community Veterans to our campus, to be recognized for the exceptionally meritorious service, commitment and loyalty to the United States of America. We will serve a light appreciation breakfast from 7:50am - 8:05am in our café. Afterwards, Veterans are invited to our K-5 classrooms from 8:30am - 9:00am to visit and share a few words about their military service.
For our middle school students (6th-8th), we are currently working to provide a unique experience. Middle school students will be provided the opportunity to sign-up to hear from guest speakers from various military branches during their respected lunch times. Middle school lunches are from 12:05pm - 12:35pm and 12:40pm - 1:10pm.
Please mark the RSVP options below and return to your child’s teacher or front office by Nov. 5th if you are a veteran and are interested in joining us please click on the button below, fill out the form, and return it to school with your child.
Thank you for making our Veteran’s Day a special time to honor the beloved Veterans.

Important News You Can Use
Signs of Suicide Presentation
On Wednesday, November 13 or Thursday, November 14 all Prestwick STEM Middle School students will view a presentation on the Signs of Suicide. This is a mandated topic for the State of Texas. The presentation highlights the acronym ACT as a way to respond if a friend indicates they are struggling with depression or suicidal ideation: A-Acknowledge your friend's feelings, C-Show that you Care and T-Tell a trusted adult.
Parents may view a video informing them of the content and process by going to https://sossignsofsuicide.org/parent/watch-videos. At the end of the presentation students will respond Yes or No, indicating that they either need to speak with someone about the content or that they do not need to speak with someone.

Staff Spotlight
This week our spotlight is on one of our new members of the 4th grade team at Prestwick, Ms. York. To some of our families she may be a familiar face as she did a long term substitute position in kindergarten last year.
Here is what Ms. York has to say about herself: I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach your student this year. This is my first year teaching at Prestwick and I feel very grateful for the opportunity to become a proud Lobo! I have taught 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, and Kindergarten in the past. Previously I taught in Irving ISD and then for a short while in Frankfurt, Germany! I have a passion for education and enjoy sharing that passion with my students.
In my free time I enjoy working out, traveling, reading, going to concerts and spending time with my friends and family. I look forward to making this year the best one yet!
