CCE SIT Process
Now that we've been with our kids long enough to really know where their greatest needs are, many of you will want to move toward support/suggestions from some of our experts.
- In a perfect world staff would be able to bring up student needs during PLCs. This would mean that EVERY week staff could bring up student needs and problem solve in a timely manner. (Where as last year we only had a Tier PLC meeting once a month.) Obviously training needs for Fast Bridge has created a hicup in this step. But keep it in mind once we return to regular PLCs. In the meantime, if you feel like you need to meet on a student, meet with either of us and we will determine if it's time to put it on the SIT calendar.
- If the suggestions/supports developed during PLCs do not improve the student's status OR if the need is great enough to immediately move onto the next step, a decision is made among the classroom teacher, team, and administration that an individual SIT meeting needs to be scheduled. Administration has access to the IEP/504/SIT calendar and schedules said meeting. Invitations to said meeting are sent to the classroom teacher and any other needed expert (Lori, Allison, SPED, etc.)
- On the day of the scheduled meeting a sub will cover the classroom teacher so that they can attend. At the end of the meeting a followup plan will be established. This may include a followup meeting date.

Good News Call Take 2
Any time you set a goal and try something new there's bound to be some bumps in the road and a need for change. Though we all know that the Good News Calls are an AMAZING opportunity for Kelley and me to contact parents about good things (when so much of the time we are making calls for areas of need) we have experienced some of those bumps in the road.
During a recent "Kids Deserve It" book study meeting I had the opportunity to get some feedback on our Good News Calls. Let me just say THANK YOU to our book study members because their feedback was just what the doctor ordered.
Based on their feedback, the thoughts of a few other staff members, and our own ideas, Kelley and I are pushing the reset button!
Important Things to Know
- One of the things Kelley and I want to commit ourselves to is the idea of making our phone calls more timely. We don't want to be praising a student for something that happened weeks ago because chances are they've totally forgotten about the event OR their behavior has taken a turn. ; )
- We also want everyone to understand that you do NOT have to nominate someone all of the time. We want this to be meaningful. A few of you have reached out to us in the moment and asked us to make good news calls THAT DAY. When we can we will absolutely do so! What a great way to celebrate student success.
Steps
- Every Friday Kelley will include the link to the Good News Call of the Day form in her weekly SMORE. (see below for the link!)
- When you read the SMORE if you have a student from that week that you'd like to nominate please fill out the form. We would ask that staff members nominate no more than one student per week. Your nomination must be submitted by noon the following Monday for the phone call to take place that week.
- At noon on Monday we will print out all submissions that came in from the week prior and start making phone calls.
Kelley and I are very excited to put these changes into place and start celebrating more success at CCE!!!!

Student Needs Assessment
- Manipulative
- Clingy
- Bossy
- Dramatic
- Attention-seeking
- Immature
- Any other behavior outside the norm of compliance
Ask yourself what needs are not being met?
- Basic needs? (food, shelter, sleep, love)
- Relationship needs? Does the child have a good relationship with you or any other adults? How about peers?
- Responsibility needs? Is the child contributing? Responsibility and being a part of something is a real need for students.
- Regulation needs? Does the child know how to self regulate? Some of our students may need assistance in this area.
*All behavior is communication.
Below is one of my favorite visuals for helping a child who is dysregulated.
Who Doesn't Love a Jeans Day?
What if I told you that you could help assist those who have lost their homes, their schools and their businesses due to the fires in California and get to wear jeans all with one action? What if I told you that if you bought a t-shirt or hoodie from the link below, it's your automatic jeans pass whenever you wear it?
Well, that's exactly what I'm telling you!
If you want to learn more about the cause read this blog post by my friend, Tracey Allen, who is living in the area and has been effected by these terrible fires. This is also personal for me. I had a cousin who lost her home in the fires. It's been simply devastating.
