February 1 - 6, 2016 - Serve, Lead & Inspire

Hello Lopez Families,

This week we were happy to host educators from across the nation and give them tours of our beautiful campus. They were here to see how we were implementing the Leader in Me strategies. They were very impressed at all the things we have been able to accomplish and were amazed by our kids, just as I am every day.

We have worked hard implementing strategies that produce self-sufficient learners and leaders who will be able to use their skills in school and beyond. Although our teachers have worked tirelessly at this, I think the benefits are tremendous and I would not continue if I did not believe so. Mrs. Williams spent the next morning off-campus presenting to a group so they too could begin the journey as we have. It is good to have people here so passionate about kids that they go the extra mile to help other schools give their students the same opportunities.

We have a really cool fundraising event coming up called "The Great Amazing Race". Check out the flier below - it is going to be so much fun!

February 1st through 5th is School Counseling Week. If you have a chance, thank your counselors for the work they do. They provide so much for our students and much of that goes unnoticed on purpose. Thank you counselors!

A couple quick reminders:

  • Please do not send your child with food for the purpose of sharing with a large group. This can put some kids, who are not supposed to eat certain foods, in an awkward position and possibly make choices they shouldn't.
  • When dropping off students in the morning or picking up after school, please pull forward as much as possible before opening the door. Stopping early, such as the 6th graders in the morning at the first part of the building, causes a chain effect that slows the whole process down. Pulling all the way forward can allow us to drop off/pick up 10-12 kids at a time instead of one at a time. I have had one of the district safety supervisors here in the mornings this week looking for safe ways to improve the process. There are not too many options, so your help is appreciated by all.

Have a great week!

Ian's Cup Spring Soccer Clinic and Fundraiser

Calling all Soccer Players! Ian’s Foundation will be offering their annual spring soccer clinic for the San Antonio youth as one of their major fundraisers for the Ian's Cup scholarship fund (formerly known as The Fincke Cup). The clinic will be held on Sunday, February 28th at the Mays YMCA from 2-4 pm (with registration from 1:30-2:00). The cost of the clinic is $30 if pre-registered and $35 the day of the clinic. It will include a 2-hour clinic as well as a 2016 Ian's Cup t-shirt (pictured to the left and while supplies last).

The deadline for t-shirt pre-orders and pre-registration for the soccer clinic to ensure a 2016 Ian's Cup t-shirt is Monday, February 15th, but pre-registration for the clinic will remain open through Saturday, February 27th at 6PM. Trainers will include local high school coaches, club trainers and high school soccer players from Johnson and Reagan, as they must volunteer at one of the foundation's community service events to be eligible for a scholarship.

Please refer to the soccer clinic flyer for more information about this event, t-shirt sales, the Ian's Cup Match, and a fundraiser they are having at Beefy's Backyard on February 23rd - 24th. More information about the foundation, volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, as well as upcoming events can be found at www.IansCup.com.
