At Simmons Elementary School, We're Better Together

We are excited to welcome back students and staff on Thursday, January 2nd! We look forward to many new learning opportunities as we begin 2020. January is the perfect time to reflect on our progress so far this school year, while resetting our goals for the second half of the year. We encourage our students to dream big, then make a plan for how to succeed.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service - January 17th

Simmons Elementary School will work with the Giving Tree organization for the third year as part of our Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on January 17th. We will create sock rolls to accompany Gifts of Hope packages which will be distributed to displaced individuals in Philadelphia. The Gifts of Hope packages our students will assemble will include a pair of socks, a granola bar, a packet of crackers, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. These packages will be distributed by the Giving Tree organization to shelters in Philadelphia including the Hub of Hope located in Suburban Street Station which functions as a day center for individuals who made need a place to shower and get further assistance.


We are asking each grade level to bring in items to help us prepare for our project. All items will be collected from January 2- January 13th.


K- Instant Oatmeal Packets

1st – Crackers (Individually wrapped)

2nd – Boxes of Granola Bars

3rd and 4th – Toothbrush and Toothpaste

5th – Tube Socks (New)

Toy Donations

Students in Mrs. Hrabyk and Mrs. Rappaport’s group at Simmons Elementary are asking for your support. They have been working hard to create a new play room experience for all children here at school. With the holidays quickly approaching, what better way to make room for the new than to donate your gently used toys to this great cause? From 12-5-19 to 1-24-19 you can drop off any new or gently used toy, board game, or indoor sports equipment that is appropriate for preschool through 5th grade, in the front lobby. News from the Simmons Home and School Association

Please join us Tuesday January 14th at 7 pm for a Spring Fair Meeting. The Spring Fair

Committee is seeking Simmons family members for the Chair position as well as

additional volunteers. We need you to help run this fun event! It can’t happen without

Please join us on January 15 th at 7pm for the HSA General meeting. We will meet in the CROC, which is the conference room in back half of the cafeteria.


*** Simmons Annual Family Dance ***

Save the Date for our annual Family Dance, Friday January 24th from 7-9pm! Lots of fun for the kids, a DJ, dancing and more! Stay tuned for more details…


*** Grades 1 and 2 Talent Show Needs Chairs***

The HSA is seeking Simmons family members for the Chair position as well as

***Discovery Time Information***

Discovery Time is an after school program run by the Simmons HSA where children in Grades 1-5 can experience or “discover” a new interest or hobby. Classes are offered during the month of February and held once a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-4:45. The cost for classes is between $20-$60 depending on the supplies needed. An informational packet will be coming home in backpacks soon that includes a class catalog and all registration forms.


There are two options for registration:

1. In person from 6-7:30 on January 15th in the cafeteria.

2. Early Registration may be sent in to school with payment anytime until the 15th. If you

choose to register early you are agreeing to volunteer one class day and must have your HHSD Volunteer Badge.


We are currently looking for a few people to run this program for the 2020-21 school year. If

Volunteer Information

Any adult who will be in the classrooms (for any reason) or for field trips are required to have a volunteer photo i.d. badge issued by the Hatboro-Horsham School District. The required clearances are free and any adult (including parents, grandparents and other family members) can complete the process. The volunteer credentials are good for five years. We appreciate the time and commitment that our volunteers offer to enhance our school!
