Message from Mission Control
* With testing season in full swing, STAAR is right around the corner. We are finalizing accommodations and STAAR assignments. TELPAS scoring is this week and all writing samples have been turned in. Several of you are doing additional benchmarks before the actual STAAR days, so those are on the horizon as well.
* Speaking of STAAR week, we received the close date for our house, and you guessed it, we close April 9th, the week of STAAR. I will not be here on the 9th, 12th, & 13th. I will be here on the testing days, but I will most likely leave after the main 4 hour testers are completed, assuming everything goes as planned. Of all weeks to close, but we are so ready to have a house, that I didn't even ask for them to try and push it back. I will make do as best as I can.
* I sent an email, but please remember to only stay outside for your 15 minute recess times. Also, if you have adjusted your recess times, make sure to let the office know. Christine, Laura and Amy use that schedule to know where classes are at all times. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. We appreciate it.
Campus News
* We will have a SHORT meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) in the library immediately after school in order to recognize our campus winners for Teacher, Professional, Paraprofessional and Auxiliary of the Year! This will be really SHORT! Sorry for the short notice!
* Lion King performance is THIS Wednesday! If you are available, I HIGHLY encourage you to attend. This is going to be an AMAZING show!
* EMS STEM Showcase is this Thursday from 5:30-7:30 at HCTC. We do have 3 boys participating, so if you're in the area, make sure to swing by and check their projects out as well as see the projects from around the district. Huge shout out to Laura Ingram for organizing our participants and taking on that role!
* We THINK the bells are now working. Today they have gone off at random times, but they have been working on them, so fingers crossed that they have been fully repaired.
* Please advertise Lion King and the Color Run to your parents/families! Both Vicki and Leslie/Melanie have worked extremely hard to plan these events! They are sure to both be amazing!
Great Expecations
This year, we will be implementing our GE life principles during announcements, as well as having the opportunity for kids to respond using the white interactive papers in the hallway (formerly used for vocabulary).
Each life principle will be talked about during a 1 week period. You will be getting the schedule sent this week, and it will also be posted on the One Note staff portal. We will discuss on announcements, and students will have the opportunity to write (or draw) how they show this life principle. For example, the first one is self discipline. They can write on the paper how they show or can use self discipline. This will require thinking and application... so it brings in the higher levels. We will talk about the expectations of how this will be used on the announcements, so the students are familiar with what is acceptable.
Just as the vocabulary has been done in the past, the life principles will remain posted on the wall, so that the students can see them and refer back to them. The Elk of the Month will be chosen based on the life principles that have been discussed for the month. Each student chosen will not have to demonstrate ALL of the life principles, but one or more.
This week, our life principle is:
Forgiveness: act of forgiving for an offense; pardoning
