Counselor's Corner
Ms. Sheeler-Week of Oct. 12-16
Helping Children With Stress
- Draw a Safe Place-This activity promotes self-soothing-both in making the picture, and using that safe place for children to "go to" in their mind when they feel stressed.
- "Pick a Flower, Blow-out a candle"-This is a simple way to teach children how to deep breathe. Have them imagine picking a flower (smelling it in through their nose), and then holding up a finger to (blow-out a candle) exhaling through their mouth.
- Bedtime Beads-The child can make a simple necklace with beads/yarn, etc. to use to deep breathe as they move the beads along the string while saying simple positive affirmations such as, "I am safe", "I am okay", "I am a good friend", etc.
