SCHOOL SUPPLY Donation THANK YOU!
Dear English Landing Families,
On behalf of all English Landing teachers we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for the stash of school supplies you have provided for our students. There are MANY times during the school year where students arrive to English Landing without any school supplies. In the fall, we watch students come to back to school night and look around at the supplies on everyone’s desk and begin panicking. They know immediately they don’t have what they need to start the year off prepared. We also watch their eyes light up when we tell them not to worry and send them to “shop” for their supplies or have everything sitting on their desk when they arrive on the first day of school. Then throughout the school year, when a new student arrives at English Landing without school supplies or their school supplies don’t match what was on our list, it is no big deal because we are able to grab what i s needed from our school supply stash. This helps ease their transition and eliminates one of the many worries students may have when starting mid-year. Extra school supplies may not seem like a big deal, but for students who don’t have them, it represents so much more.
We feel so fortunate to be able to provide these school supplies throughout the year and it wouldn’t be possible without your generosity.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
The English Landing Staff
PARK HILL STAR AWARD WINNER
Congratulations to Dr. Roe for receiving a Park Hill Star Award from our Superintendent, Dr. Cowherd. She was nominated by a parent of a student at English Landing. We are lucky to have a principal who LOVES all of the Eagles in our Nest. Thank you, Dr. Roe, for all that you do!!!
Career Share Classroom Visits
Dear Families,
Parental involvement in your child’s classroom is one of the leading factors in raising self-esteem and academic achievement. This can go beyond attendance at Parent Teacher Conferences and family nights at English Landing. We want to see you at Career Share!
Each of our English Landing families are unique ---with their own talents. Career Share is an opportunity for every child at English Landing to showcase THEIR family to their classmates. Career Share is an amazing opportunity for you to visit your student’s classroom. Your involvement will not only make their day, but provide another opportunity for you to partner with English Landing and your child’s education.
So far this school year, 169 families have volunteered for Career Share. Our goal is to have EVERY student have a member(s) of their family come share in their classroom about their job and careers.
It truly means the world to our Eagles. Please take a moment to sign up for a 20 minute time slot in your student’s classroom to share with their classroom.

Have you had a career share visit this year? It is our goal for each student to have a parent or family member spend time in his/her classroom sometime during this school year. On Monday, Graciella's brother visited Mr. O'Connor's classroom. Our special guest had just returned from a 7 month deployment with the Marines. During this career share the topic of teamwork to overcome challenges was highlighted. Graciella's brother also thanked English Landing for the hundreds of holiday cards that were sent by Eagles to the Marines in December. Eagles always SOAR!

CELEBRATING STUDENT BIRTHDAYS AT ENGLISH LANDING
Celebrating Student Birthdays: (Park Hill Parent/Student Handbook pages 37-38):
We are happy to celebrate student birthdays and half birthdays (if your child has a summer birthday) at English Landing! To protect the health and safety of our students, families may bring pre-packaged treats to school to share with classmates. In order to address any known allergy concerns, a label listing ingredients should be affixed to the package. Due to allergies and other food intolerances, please consult with your classroom teacher before the pre-packaged treats are brought to school. As a healthier alternative, Park Hill Food Service offers a variety of nutritious treats that may be purchased.
At English Landing we need your HELP! Many birthday treats arrive at the beginning of the school day which provides us time to review the class list regarding food allergies or food intolerances, however, many other birthday treats arrive during lunch and often right at the same time the treat needs to be distributed to students. PLEASE plan on arriving earlier for lunch (at least 15 minutes) to give us time to check the pre-packaged treat ingredients with the students in the classroom who have food allergies or food intolerances. Our school nurse, Mrs. Kimbrel, and office staff, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Wood, or Mrs. Melvin, will help with this process so when the lunchroom staff teachers distribute the treat in the cafeteria, additional steps have been taken to ensure we are protecting the health and safety of our eagles.
