Smith Family Newsletter

We believe in the power of school and family partnerships.

Message from Ms. Rivera

I cannot believe we are already in the month of April! Just one more newsletter and then it is off to summer. We are in the final stretch to make our kids progress as much as possible!

Our theme this year has been "Growth," and at the beginning of the year, each team painted a portion of a canvas that was put together into a beautiful work of art. We worked together to get the job done. Just as we did with the paintings, we are all working together to make sure that all students learn at high levels, and that each student grows academically and socially this year. So far, our teams have done a tremendous job, and we could not have done it without you! For this last stretch, help our kids by reading at home each day and working math into your daily lives, even something as simple as skip counting in the car.

Thank you for your continued support! Feel free to contact me for any questions or feedback at Let's continue to work together to grow our kids!

April Teacher of the Month

Our April Teacher of the Month is Cynthia Schneider! This is Mrs. Schneider's third year at Smith, and in that short time, she has become a leader on her team and in our school. Mrs. Schneider is always hard at work, either instructing her second graders in engaging whole group lessons or growing them during her small groups.

Mrs. Schneider keeps excellent notes on her students and knows each one of them as a learner. She can tell you the strengths, growth areas, and goals of her students, and she is constantly monitoring them to ensure they are making progress. She leads her team in their collaborative meetings, and she asks thoughtful questions to grow her own learning. Congratulations, Mrs. Schneider!

April Paraprofessional of the Month

Our April Paraprofessional of the Month is Yolanda Rodriguez! This is Ms. Rodriguez's second year at Smith Elementary, but she is a veteran in our district. She works as an in-class support aide, supporting students in the classroom. Ms. Rodriguez is hardworking, dependable, and dedicated to the success of our students.

Every time I see Ms. Rodriguez, she is going above and beyond to help students grow. She consistently pulls small groups in class and works with the teachers to help all learners. We are so glad to have Ms. Rodriguez on our team! Congratulations!

Celebrating Earth

April 22nd is Earth Day, so we will be talking about the 3 R's of Reducing, Reusing and Recycling!

In addition to learning about our resources, we are also participating in a plastic bag collection contest sponsored by HEB. From now until April 29th, we are collecting plastic bags from any store. Whichever school collects the most bags wins a $150 gift card, which will be used to purchase treats for the students! Thank you for helping to make sure those plastic bags get recycled!
