Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15-October 15
Hispanic Heritage Month is a great time to explore and celebrate the diversity of Latino culture and experiences with all of the children you serve. Check out the tips below - You can use these ideas to engage your classroom, program, or community in a celebration of cultural diversity.
Fun Ideas for Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month:
*Read and have children illustrate favorite folktales, riddles, proverbs, or tongue-twisters from different Hispanic countries and cultures.
*Share a bilingual story with your students through a dynamic read-aloud. If you are not bilingual in English and Spanish yourself, invite a guest reader, such as a teacher, librarian, local community member or even a family member of one of your students.
*Decorate school hallways and classroom doors with multicultural book covers and pieces by Latino artists.
Invite kids and teens to "see the world through books." Use a passport booklet that is stamped after visiting different cultural stations throughout the library or after reading books by others of different backgrounds. https://www.littlepassports.com
*Display a map of the world and have children place a sticker on the country or countries where their families originated. Then have them share with the group what they know about those places. These can be personal memories, stories they have heard from family members, or facts and information.
