Mrs. Greene's 3rd Grade
February 21, 2020
February is Flying By...
It is so much fun watching my students get excited about completing their February Reading Bingo card. I have overheard many conversations about new books they have tried, book recommendations, and comparing Bingo cards. Of course, spinning the wheel is the reward for their hard work and so much FUN! Thank you for encouraging your child to step up their reading game throughout this month.
Scholastic Book order is due Monday, February 24. Lots of book choices for you child. You may use the order form or order online.
As we approach the month of March, don't forget that the week of March 16 is the week all 3rd graders take the iRead test. If you can try to schedule appointments in the afternoon instead of the morning that week, it is appreciated. We test in the morning. More information to come as the date gets closer.
That's all I have for now...

Amazing Things I Saw and Heard in Room 9...
- Gabe received a compliment from Ms. Brea (one of the custodians). Apparently there was a mess made in the cafeteria involving Ranch dressing. Gabe, voluntarily, stepped up and helped clean up the mess. I told him he would make a wonderful husband someday! I got a big, toothy grin out of that one!
- Chris complimented Ben during Community Circle for sticking up for him during a gaga ball game.
- Katelyn, Sheza, and Kendall stayed after school one day to help clean and organize the classroom. It made a huge difference and their help was so appreciated!
- Evie was getting very frustrated during math as she was working to understand a very difficult skill. During Math Workshop she chose to visit the back table so I could help her. By the end of our time together, she had the new skill mastered!
- It was a pleasure to watch Ady's participation during reading discussion today. Every question I asked she had her hand up excitedly ready to answer and discuss the events in the book.
- Ethan did not want to turn in his opinion writing essay until the very last minute today. He told me he wanted to make sure his piece had that WOW factor before he turned it in.
WOW!!! I realize I have several more good news items to share, so --- I'll wait and share them next week!
Next Week in Room 9
Reading: Book Clubs!!
- We will begin Book Clubs next week. Students will choose their top choice from five different books. They will work with a small group to read, discuss, and practice literacy skills using the book as their focus.
Math: Unit 6 - Test Week
We will review for the Unit 6 test on Monday, February 24. We will test on Tuesday and Wednesday. Part of the test is a cumulative review which is a review of all skills learned this year. I will grade the test and try to return it by Friday, February 28. As always, your child may bring a drink to enjoy during one test day.

We finished publishing our persuasive writing essays. I will grade them over the weekend and return them to your child with the rubric. We will begin working on constructed response and prompt writing next week.
