Astro September Update #3
Dream big. Reach for the stars. Together we achieve success!
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Our Back to School Night is next week on September 30th from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. This will be a virtual event. Teachers will be sending you a link to join a Google Meet for a classroom presentation. If you are unable to attend or need to access multiple presentations, the Google Slides for the presentation will be shared through Google Classroom as well. In the presentations, they will be sharing details about their schedules, class expectations, safety protocols and there will be time for questions. If you have questions specific to your student, please arrange a different time to meet with the teacher. This is a time for general information about the class.
In partnership,

COVID and Quarantine Information for Families
Notification of a Positive COVID Class
If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID and they were at school during their infectious period (48 hours prior to symptom onset) a COVID-19 Case Alert letter will be emailed to you. We will also send a notification through Remind letting you know to check your email. The Hillsboro School District Contact Tracing Team and Washington County Public Health officials work closely with school staff to review cohort logs and identify individuals who may have been in close contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19. If a student or staff member is determined to be a close contact, they will be contacted by the HSD Contact Tracing Team separately with further instructions. The length of the quarantine time period is 10 days from the date of last exposure with the infected person. Day 1 is the day after last exposure. This means they can return to school on the 11th day provided they do not have any symptoms of illness.
It’s important to notify us if your student tests positive for COVID-19 or experiences any of these primary COVID-19 symptoms:
Fever of 100.4°F or higher
Chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
New loss of taste or smell
We know this is a difficult time for everyone, and our hearts go out to those who are ill. More information about COVID-19, guidance for schools, and our response plans can be found on the Oregon Department of Education’s Ready Schools, Safe Learners page; the Oregon Health Authority’s COVID-19 page; and HSD’s 2021-22 School Year, and Coronavirus web pages.
Attendance
If your student is ill or has been exposed, please contact the office to let us know. See the COVID Flow Chart and Too Sick for School documents. We have to work together to keep our students safe and healthy. We appreciate all of the communication that families have provided about what’s going on with their situations at home. This communication helps us all to stay as healthy and safe as possible.
Learning from Home
We're really excited about having students back in school five days a week full-time but unfortunately there are instances when a student cannot attend school. This may be because there has been a Covid exposure in the household or a student has COVID-19 or COVID like symptoms. These are what we call a required absence. We have a specific code for that in our attendance system.
If your student is required to be absent from school they will be able to access online learning through their Google classroom. This online learning does not look like CDL from last year. There will be assignments that are posted in the classroom that can be done at a time that is convenient for the student and your family.
Every student has a Chromebook assigned to them that can go home for them to use to access assignments. If you are in need of resources or help accessing or logging in please see the links below that can answer many of your questions. Additionally if you need more support please contact the office and someone will call back added time that works to walk you through this.
