Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.!
The third Monday of January is a special day because we remember a very important man, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who was born on January 15th, 1929. Dr. King is remembered for his important contributions to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. He is also remembered for his famous words in his "I Have A Dream" Speech.
Habit Focus Week of January 20-24, 2020
- I work first, then play!
- I do the things that I have to do before I do the things that I want to do.
- I stay focused on what I'm doing. I try to minimize distractions and regroup if I get off task.
- I spend my time on the things that are the most important.
WIDA Testing starting this week
Our WIDA window will open on the 21st of January, 2020 and will start assessing our students.
If your child is taking a part in the WIDA testing, we ask that
- They receive enough sleep the night before
- They do not stay up too late
- They have well-balanced meal
- They get a brain break and exercise
- They are prepared to take the assessment
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to Ms. Wickramatillake at wickrans@pwcs.edu.
THE 3rd ANNUAL PANDA PLUNGE READING CHALLENGE IS COMING!!!
A Message From Mrs. Webb...
How did this reading challenge begin? When I was in elementary school, reading wasn't my favorite thing to do UNTIL our local McDonald's inspired me with a T-shirt! Yes, a T-shirt! McDonald's gave away a FREE T-shirt to children who read 100 Books! The back of the T-shirt had their famous golden arch on top of a stack of books and in big, bold letters, it said "I Read 100 Books!" That's when I became VERY interested in reading! I read exactly 100 books and I proudly wore my T-shirt until it had holes in it and it didn't fit me anymore! It is my hope that in some way, the Panda Plunge Reading Challenge will inspire our students to enjoy reading (and earn a T-Shirt too)!
We are very appreciative of our sponsors: Sandy Springs Bank, Bookworm Central and SPARK! We are also excited for Mr. Todd Erickson, Associate Superintendent for Central Elementary Schools to return this year as our Guest Speaker at our school-wide kick-off assembly on January 29th! He really knows how to motivate children while emphasizing the importance of reading!
