Math Tea

WOW, what a turn out! Kindergarten hosted a Math Tea on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2 pm and almost ALL of our parents came! Thank you SO much for taking time out of your busy day to come to school and learn how we use math stations to help us understand math concepts. Your children LOVED showcasing their learning and enjoyed teaching you! I really should not call it a tea party, seeing I forgot to get the tea! Yikes! Big shout out to Mr. Hains for saving the day and bringing the juice. Thank you Mr. Hains!!!

Highlights from last week....

In Reader's Workshop, we worked on how readers think while they read. We used our schema as we read our books. The children worked on making text to self connections while they read. We read Fairy Tales this week with a focus on text to text connections and retelling as we read different versions of each fairy tale. This week we read "The Little Red Hen".

In phonics, we focused on letter formations, sentence structure, short vowels, and CVCe words.

In Math, we finished our unit on teen numbers.

In Science, we started our unit on ocean animals. We learned all about sharks. We will read several non fiction books and participate in several activities to help us understand the concept. Please ask your child to tell you some facts about sharks. I will be putting their books together for their portfolio.

In our Second Step program, we will continue to learn about our own feelings and how they can change.
