DISCUSSION ITEMS
The Board heard discussions on the following topics:
- Jan Rogenski, Asst. Superintendent of Educational Services, Connie McCarley, Asst. Director of Educational Support Services, and Adriane Winslow, Wellness Coordinator, provided a Part 2 overview of the Wellness Program. They spoke to the resources in place for student Social Emotional Learning (SEL)) and MTSS (Multi-Tiered Student Support) Tier One. Wellness Centers are starting to open up at all schools - each with its own unique style, incorporating common zones for Movement, Art, Sensory, Social, and Reading. At WCI, their wellness center has both a Calming Room and a Group Room. Designated SEL time has been built in to Morning meetings and Advisory time. - Director of Special Services, Amy Espinoza, reviewed the Learning Recovery Grant. This grant is a part of AB130, specifically for purposes of providing learning recovery support to pupils with disabilites associated with impacts to learning due to school disruptions stemming from COVID-19 between March 2020-September 2021. The Instructional Program Goal is to increase instructional support in the area of math for students with IEPs in grades 6-8.
- Ruben Fernandez, Director of Innovation, gave an update on Measure D projects that are coming to an end. We are on time and 7% under budget!
- Chief Business Official, Vince Morales, presented the Board with information regarding inconsistencies in the Management Salary Schedule as it pertains to recruitment and retention. School Services is conducting a research study and should be able to provide more information in December.
ACTION ITEMS
The Board voted on the following recommended action items:
- Walnut Creek Teachers Association (WCTA) presented their Memorandum of Understanding regarding the impact of COVID-19 - Approved, 5-0
- California School Employee Association, Chapter 202, presented their Memorandum of Understanding regarding the impact of COVID-19 - Approved, 5-0
- Ruben Fernandez, Director of Innovation, presented a proposal for Theatrical Audio/Visual Set-up in Squire Hall at WCI, funded by Measure D - Approved, 5-0

Special Agenda Item: FILLING A GOVERNING BOARD VACANCY
Due to the resignation of Board member Elizabeth Bettis, the Walnut Creek School District Governing Board will have a vacant member seat. The Board conducted discussions on what steps to take in filling the vacancy and decided to make a provisional appointment. Heidi Hernandez-Gatty and Nithin Iyengar were appointed as the committee for provisional appointment. Applications will be accepted until 4pm on November 29, with interviews to be held at a Special Board Meeting on December 14. REPORTS FROM GOVERNING BOARD MEMBERS
The Board Members reported the following activities since our last Board meeting:
- Aimee Moss: visited Parkmead on 10/28 for special presentations on traffic safety and was able to see "The Den"
- Liz Bettis: nothing to report
- Heidi Hernandez-Gatty: sat in as an observer on Negotiations, October 25 & 27, and November 1-2 & 8
- Nithin Iyengar: attended the WCEF meeting on October 28
- Zetta Reicker: attended EPOCH training on 10/21, participated in a Safety Committee meeting on 10/28, and shared correspondance with her assigned schools
