Tiger's Tale

Message From The Principal
Happy Friday Thompson Parents!
I hope Phase 2 is going well for you and your children. Please remember students should bring their devices each day they are present in school. We have only a few loaners here to hand out. There is a good chance your child may be without a Chromebook if they forget theirs at home. We will do what we can here to help!
Friday, Feb. 26th is a Teacher Institute day and students will have off of school.
Our students will take the 5 Essentials survey on Wednesday, Feb. 24th during their social studies classes. The information and process will be provided by our teachers. Please consider taking the survey through our parent link found here: https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/

AVID
Another fun AVID strategy that is similar to last week's idea is a Philosophical Chairs discussion. In a philosophical chairs discussion, students are given a central idea statement, and then they debate with other classmates. They can use articles, texts, and their own opinions to help convince their classmates that they are right. Students choose a side based on the central statement, and they physically move around the classroom, depending on their beliefs. Unfortunately, this year teachers had to be a little more creative with these discussions. This week, our AVID8 students practiced their annotating and inquiry skills by reading two different heavily-biased articles about taxing junk food. Students were then asked to choose a side and prove to their other classmates that their ideas were the right ones. Instead of students moving around the classroom, we created a Jamboard, and students put their names on the side that they felt they sided with the most. Students brought up great ideas and really thought about all aspects of the topic. Well done, AVID8!

NEW STUDENTS TO THE DISTRICT
Please send in your updated physicals and updated immunizations, if you have not already done so. If your child will be doing the Group C Remote for the rest of the year you still need to get the medical forms into the nurse. When we start the next school year the students who have not given the nurse the updated medical forms, will not be allowed in the building until the nurse has the form.
