News & Announcements
Black History Month 2023
Cumberland Valley School District has adopted the theme "The Stories Around Us" in recognition of Black History Month 2023. The purpose is to explore and better understand the connections to our local community in central Pennsylvania and the importance of these stories in the greater narrative of who we are.
Each week throughout the month, students will watch and discuss a video that is based on research regarding topics related to our community. Much of the research and production is being conducted by Cumberland Valley High School students in our History of Black Civil Rights course, which is under the direction and leadership of Mr. Mumma and Mr. Long.
One District, One Book launches today
IT'S BACK! The excitement, the anticipation, the energy has been building in our elementary schools across the district. One District, One Book makes its annual debut today, February 1, 2023. The book will be revealed during afternoon activities in each of our K-5 schools, and we can't wait for you to find out this year's title!

Portrait of an Eagle: Student Spotlight
Students in our AP German and Honors German V classes at CV High School recently attended a German cooking class at the Kitchen Shoppe in Carlisle. As instructors guided the class through a variety of hands-on cooking techniques, students demonstrated responsibility and utilized communication skills. They are a Portrait of an Eagle! The end result of our students' hard work was a four course meal consisting of:
- Zwiebelladen (onion tart)
- Eintopf (a German stew with cabbage and sausage)
- Schnitzel und Kartoffelsalat (pork cutlet with potato salad)
- deutsche Schokoladenbrownies (German chocolate brownies)

Additional Reminders
Reminder: Change to Start/End Times for Eastern Elementary Schools
District administration has been working over the past year to identify ways to return our eastern elementary schools to an earlier start time. With the identification of an additional transportation service and new drivers, we believe we are able to move Hampden, Shaull, Sporting Hill, and Winding Creek Elementary schools back to a 9:15 a.m. start time, with an end time of 3:55 p.m., beginning next school year.
Please click the Quick Access link below to view the anticipated 2023-24 instructional day schedule by building for each school across the district. (NOTE: Hours in which the building is physically open and students are permitted to enter for the start of the day vary by building.)
