Central Elementary: Helping All Kids Find Their Genius

Week of December 7, 2015

Message from Mrs. Hill

Family Christmas Trees

Each year, Central's Family Organization purchases Christmas trees to decorate our stage. The trees will be given to families who do not have a tree for Christmas. The CIA group has purchased one tree and will purchase another this week. If you would like to contribute to the ornament collection for these two families, you can send an ornament to school with your child to hang on a tree. We hope by Friday, December 18, both trees will be full of ornaments collected by our kids and their families.

In our efforts to promote and support family reading, we want to share and celebrate our families reading together and our kids reading independently.

Share your photos from home of your family taking opportunities to read! You can email them to Mrs. Hill, tweet them and tag us @CentralCabotpK4, or post to our school Facebook page. Use the hash tag #CEunited anytime you tweet about our school or mention us. Thank you!

Have a wonderful week!

Your Lead Learner,

Mrs. Hill

Our entire school will be wearing pajamas December 17 because The Polar Express is coming to town! Our cafe will turn into the Polar Express as we have a sing-a-long and enjoy coming together as a school family. Your child may wear pajamas to school on this day. Please have shoes in the backpack if slippers are part of the attire for the day.

Central Night at Marco's Pizza: December 16!!!!!!

Marco's Pizza has been gracious enough to offer support for our school! They will give us a percentage of their profits once monthly. Information, along with coupons, will be coming home with your child soon! We are thankful for this opportunity to work alongside a business in our community with the goal of supporting OUR kids. Be sure to go on Facebook and "Like" the Marco's Pizza of Cabot page to help you keep up with their specials along with our Central Night promotions. You can share with friends and family!

Last month we earned over $100!

Our next night is December 16, so mark your calendars.

Christmas for Kids Toy Drive and Coat Drive

Central will be collecting new toys for our community's outreach, Christmas for Kids. There is a collection box at the entrance of our building!

We are also collecting coats for our community. If you are looking to clear out a closet, or have kids' coats that are too small, send them to school and we will find a home for them! We are accepting coats/jackets of all sizes.

It is an awesome experience to teach our kids the giving spirit, and to have empathy in their hearts for those in need.

Central Bookstore is Open!

The Central bookstore is open! We will be ready for business each Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 7:35. A cart will be in the front of the building so kids can stop by and shop. We will close before the first bell rings so all kids get to class on time! If you bring your child to school after 7:45, you will want to make plans to arrive earlier in order to shop at the bookstore on the days it is open.

We have brand new Central water bottles for sale! The cost is $3.00. Purchase yours today!

Make time each week for family reading! Not only is this quality time to spend with kids, but it feeds their brains! Reading to and with your child supports the love of literacy, and reading in front of your child models the importance of reading. Take a few moments each evening to read together as a family, to read aloud to your child, or to listen to your child read. Remember, it doesn't always have to be a book! You can read magazines, articles, poetry, something on the web, a recipe, pamphlet, brochure, etc. Reading is EVERYWHERE!

Shoparoo: A Way to Raise Funds for OUR Kids!

We have almost earned $200 for our school through Shoparoo! As of Saturday afternoon we have accumulated almost 98,500 Roo Points, and have 98 supporters. Our school wants to reach 100 users and 100,000 points before Christmas break! We will meet this goal by Monday evening, most likely! This goal would help us reach the $200 mark and beyond! Every little amount helps, so between Shoparoo, Box Tops, Marcos Pizza, and any other initiative we take on, we can earn cash rewards for our school and avoid fundraising as much as possible.

You can join Shoparoo with the following code: lang5526

What Will Shoparoo Funds Help Purchase?

We need more Chromebooks for our students. The goal is to have a 1:1 setting in third and fourth grades! This means there is a Chromebook (laptop device) for each student´s use throughout a school day. We have several devices currently and want to add more. We would also like to add to our second grade classrooms in the future, and have 1:1 tablets for our kindergarten and first grade kids.

Box Tops for Education

Our school collects Box Tops for Education, so please be saving these at home! We are hoping to purchase a brand new flag pole for our campus. The funds we raise with Box Tops will help us achieve our goal.

Below are links to some collection pages for Box Tops. You are free to print these, or you may ask your child to pick up a sheet at school! We will have them available for you.

We will offer bookstore coupons to kids who return filled Box Tops sheets! These coupons will give them discounts on items in our bookstore. We will be purchasing more items for our store and will soon share those with you!
