Attendance Counts
What’s an Excused vs Not Excused absence? Illness, doctor’s appointments, bereavement, and certain religious exercises are excused absences. Please see PAUSD board policy for the full list. All other reasons are not considered excused.
Unexcused Absences Unexcused absences include absences not included above and/or not cleared with your child’s school administration. Absences that do not qualify as excused as defined in Education Code have the potential to accrue toward truancy. Education Code §48260 provides that a student is truant if that student is:
- Absent from school without valid excuse three full days in one school year, or
- Tardy or absent for more than any 30-minute period during the school day
- Without a valid excuse on three occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof. (Education Code, 48260, subd. (a)).
If Your Child is Absent…
Please call the attendance line at 650-856-1337 x1. If the office staff does not answer you will be prompted to press 1 and leave a message. Please provide your child’s name, relationship to student, and reason for absence. You may also send us an email message escondidoattendance@pausd.org
Student Supervision
Morning supervision starts at 7:50 a.m. - For safety reasons no early drop offs please.
School begins at 8:10am. A warning bell rings at 8:05 prior to the final bell at 8:10. Students should not arrive before 7:50 a.m., as we do not have supervision. Therefore, please be sure that children arrive only between 7:50 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. or that an adult stays with the students who arrive before 7:50 a.m.
Playground Supervision
Morning Supervision: Supervision is provided after 7:50 a.m. Please drop your children off after this time.
Dismissal: There is no adult supervision of students after school. Children should leave campus after dismissal, traveling to their parents’ agreed upon destination.
After school parental supervision on the playground is required.
Adult Waiting Area
Parents waiting for the dismissal of primary and/or intermediate students may wait by the benches near the Multipurpose Room. Please do not come onto campus and wait in the hallways or outside of the classrooms.
