Cedar Park Onstage's Production of "The Election" a Landslide Hit

Bravo to CPMS theater director Mikaela Gladstone-Saucedo and to the entire cast and crew of Cedar Park Onstage's production of The Election. Well done!

Cedar Park Onstage hosts a range of production opportunities. We produce three productions a year, which range from full length plays, to one-acts, to musicals. Interested students can audition for acting roles in after school productions. Students can also apply for backstage theatre positions in any production. More info can be found at https://cpmstheatre.weebly.com/cedar-park-onstage.html.

Look for audition info for Footloose, Jr. in 2019!

8th Grade Humanities Historical Fiction Fundraiser Quickly Meets Goal

Cedar Park’s 8th grade Humanities teachers were seeking community support to bolster their classroom libraries with historical fiction novels. This fundraiser was hosted by the Beaverton Education Foundation (BEF) and was fully funded within six days. Of the $2050 raised, $500 was part of BEF's matching gift challenge.

CPMS teacher, Tricia Parks, is overwhelmed with the fundraiser's quick success. "I'm thrilled, amazed, and thankful for the generosity of my friends and our Cedar Park community. I'm so excited to purchase the titles of all the books that will be available for students this year and years to come. A heartfelt Thank You."

This fundraiser will bring in a slew of exciting and quality historical novels into every 8th grade Humanities classroom, an investment that touches every student including ELL, IEPs, 504s, and TAG students, for years to come. A special shout out to CPMS parent, Lianne Yarvis, for her work with staff to bring this BEF proposal to fruition.

Thank you, Cedar Park, for investing in quality projects and endeavors like this one.

8th Graders Take on Gingerbread House STEM Challenge

Ms. Karper's 8th grader science class combined the holiday spirit with STEM trial and error. Who's gingerbread house will be tallest? And more importantly, WHY?

Cedar Park First Lego League Robotics Team To Compete at State Championship

Cedar Park's own "Starry Knights" First Lego League Team qualified for the Intel Oregon State Championship Tournament by winning a trophy for 'Core Values,' a judge-tested event, at the regional tournament, hosted by Intel.

To score in Core Values, students are asked to complete a 'challenge puzzle' (without parent/coach help, but as a team) and then are asked a number of questions pertaining to problem solving and resolution using the Core Values. It is one of three 10 minute events.

Due to their high score in this event, as well as creating a research project with prototype addressing a real world problem and solution, and scoring in the top five for the robot game, they were advanced to The Intel Oregon State Championship tournament which is scheduled for January 19th and 20th, 2019 at Liberty High School in Hillsboro.

Thanks is due to Christina Schultz and Luke Unger, the volunteer coaches of team "Starry Knights."

Box Tops, Baby!

It is about time to submit our Box Tops for the year. We would like to earmark any money that comes in with our Box Tops program to new PE equipment, notably items that need constant replacement like balls. Please send your Box Tops in to the collection containers in the office.

There are a few things you can do that will really help the coordinators:

  1. Do a quick check and toss any that have expired.
  2. Trim them down. They are easier to bundle when they are trimmed.
  3. If you have a lot, go ahead and bundle and band them into a pack of 50.

New Cedar Park Sign Needs Committee

Last spring, the PTC held over some PTC funds to construct a new and improved Cedar Park sign. We would like to put a committee together to get the project going. Maybe a group of 8th grade students and parents can work together for an 8th grade gift to the school? Boy Scout Troop project?

Any ideas are welcome. Contact PTC President, Jana Drotzmann at janadrotzmann@comcast.net.

Staff Appreciation Cookie Buffet Astounds Staff

Huge thanks to Cedar Park parents who contributed to yesterday's Staff Cookie Buffet. As you can imagine, IT'S BEEN A LONG WEEK. Your donations were much appreciated!

Cedar Park Collecting Gently Used Board Games!

CPMS dedicates one advisory period each month specifically to connect with kids, and board games are an excellent way to make that happen.

This winter, Cedar Park is asking you to clean out your hall closets and search your basements for family friendly games to donate to CPMS. Think Jenga, Operation, Uno, Sorry - you know, the classic games you remember playing as a kid.

Please donate your gently used or new games to our front office; we'll make sure they all get a home. Don't forget to ask your students about game days in Advisory!

Current Treasurer Needed

We are still in need of a PTC treasurer to finish off the school year and serve next year. Former treasurer, Tonya Stevens is filling in the need until the position is filled.

2019-2020 PTC Board Positions

In addition to finding a treasurer, if you are interested in a PTC board position next year, now is the time to think about it. The majority of board members have 8th graders and will be leaving CPMS. Open positions include President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

It would be great to have next year’s board join us now to begin collaborating and preparing for 2019-2020. Please contact Jana Drotzmann at janadrotzmann@comcast.net.
