We will be hosting a webinar on Wednesday, April 25th at 3:00 pm to demonstrate how to apply for a Last Dollar Grant using the Crosby Scholars Student Portal. An email with instructions and a link to attend will be sent on Tuesday, April 24th.
The webinar will be recorded and posted in the Crosby Scholars Student Portal for those who are unable to attend.
Mary Katherine Dixson Scholarship
The Program will draw from the Mary Katherine Dixson Trust to award academic scholarships of varying amounts per academic year to graduating Crosby Scholar seniors who require special services in order to succeed in their post-secondary education endeavors. Students must enroll in a two- or four-year college or university or in another post-secondary program of study. Additionally, students must submit documentation from an appropriate high school or college staff member stating that they receive services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 or through the Exceptional Children’s Program.
Eligibility

Value
Potentially renewable; up to $2,500
Application Procedure
Students may begin applying by April 09, 2018 and must submit a completed online application through their Crosby student portal by May 13, 2018.
The completed application includes:
- Online application form
- Students must upload a copy of documentation from high school or college staff member stating student receives services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 or through the Exceptional Children’s Program

Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity (Gamma Kappa Boule’) Scholarship
President Obama launched the “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative to address persistent gaps faced by many young people across the country, and by boys and young men of color in particular. The Gamma Kappa Boule’ Chapter scholarship will provide one scholarship annually to two graduating Crosby Scholar seniors to help ensure these scholars reach their full potential. The theme “My Brother’s Keeper” is the focus of the Grand Boule’ nationally.
Eligibility
To be considered for this award, applicants must:
- be an African American male student
- demonstrate academic achievement by maintaining a cumulative weighted GPA of a 2.0 or higher
- complete all requirements of the Crosby Scholars Program
Value
A $1,000 non-renewable award
Application Procedure:
Students may begin applying on April 09, 2018 and must submit a completed online application through their Crosby Scholars Student Portal by April 29th, 2018.
The completed application includes:
- Online application form
- Essay on “My Brother’s Keeper” incorporating the following themes. You do not have to answer each question individually but rather address these concepts in terms of an overall theme. Essay should not exceed 500 words.
What character traits do you possess that have helped you overcome personal adversity so that you can reach your full potential? How can a high school student serve as his brother’s keeper? Describe someone who has been your “keeper” in a critical situation or as an ongoing part of your life. How would you be different had this person not been present in your life?
Students must submit an online application through their Crosby Scholars Student Portal. The application deadline is April 29th, 2018.
Parkland Magnet High School PTSA Scholarship
The Parkland PTSA is proud to announce that they are awarding a $250.00 scholarship to a student graduating from Parkland Magnet High School in June 2018.
They will award the scholarship based upon an applicants’ ability to create an innovative, creative, and feasible program that can implemented and presented to Parkland Magnet High School students and parents to increase membership and participation in the PTSA – Parent Teacher Student Association.
SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
- Must be a graduating senior at Parkland Magnet High School.
- Must be accepted and attending a 2-year or 4-year college or university beginning summer or fall of 2018.
- Cannot have scholarship awards covering 100% of tuition and books for summer and/or fall semesters 2018.
- Student or an immediate family member must be a 2017-2018 member of Parkland PTSA.
APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE:
- Application form – completed and signed.
- An original Public Service Announcement (PSA), presentation, flyer, poster, or other program materials geared towards increasing involvement in the PTSA from students and parents.
Applicants will be expected to present their proposal to a committee of PTSA Board members at an agreed upon time between April 23-27, 2018.
Applications must be postmarked or delivered to the Parkland Student Services department no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018. Applications that are incomplete, late, or do not follow the guidelines will be disqualified.
*If student applicant or immediate family member is not already a 2017-2018 member of Parkland PTSA, the applicant may join on the Parkland website (under Parents Tab/PTSA) or submit membership dues with scholarship application. Membership dues are $7.00 per person.
