Lexington and Concord

Lexington and Concord was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. It occurred in 1775. Both sides agreed not to shoot. Someone from the houses fired the first shot. Which started the war.

Battle of Sarotaga

The Battle of Saratoga were two battles. These battles were the turning point of the war. The battles were fought 8 days apart. The second time Burgoyne attacked the Americans he was defeated. Benjamin Franklin negotiated a Treaty of alliance in 1777. General John lost 86 percent of his army that marched in New York. He wanted to invaded America by marching through Hudson Valley.

Battle of Yorktown

George Washington ordered the American army to block Cornwallis in Yorktown. Cornwallis surrendered to Washington on October 17,1781. Which ended the war. The Treaty of Paris was signed freeing independence after 8 years of war.

Proclamation of 1763

King George III wrote this after the ending of the French and Indian war. He wrote it because of the fear of the Indians. It was issued October 7, 1763. A line was drawn that all settlement was unaccepted along the Appalachian Mountains.

Boston Tea Party

Was a protest by Sons of Liberty. It was caused by unfair taxes to pay off the French and Indian war. They boarded the ships one night and overthrew all the tea. The Sons of Liberty dressed themselves up as Indians. If they went as themselves and got caught they would have got punished.

Boston Massacre

Protest against British troops that resulted in the killing of five colonists in 1770. A group of soldiers were sent to calm down the protest which lead to death. The captain and 8 of his men were arrested and later acquitted. Paul Revere arose intense public protests and violent retaliation.

Thoams Paine

Was born February 9,1737, wrote Common Sense. Common Sense is a pamphlet that inspired people to fight for their independence. He was an English immigrant. He felt that people had natural rights, which were life, liberty, and the right to property. Which later got changed by Thomas Jefferson.

Benjamin Franklin

Was born January 17, 1706. He negotiated the Treaty of Alliance. He drafted the Declaration of Independence. He was a founding father. He also negotiated the 1783 Treaty of Paris that ended the war. He was a delegate of the convention that produced the U.s. Constitution.
