Medieval Korea's Story

In 1392 Yi Song-gye who was a powerful general gained control of Korea and established a kingdom named "Choson." The Choson kingdom was also known as Yi and it ended up being one of the longest lasting dynasties lasting until 1910. The kings of Choson made a government and based it off of Confucianism. During this period of time Korea achieved a lot of different things, such as the Korean alphabet. Later in the 1500s Korea was impacted by the Japanese who invaded twice. To defend themselves from the Japanese, the Koreans built ironclad war ships that had cannons built into them. After this corrupt and violent time, the Choson isolated themselves from the rest of the world. Doing such earned them the nickname "Hermit Kingdom".
