Happy April Foods' Day! Want to know how April Fools' Day began?
Did you know that until the sixteenth century, March 25th was considered the first day of the new year? A celebration lasted for eight days, ending on April 1st, when gifts were exchanged. When European countries decided to make January 1st the beginning of the new year, some people kept to the old tradition and continued to celebrate the first day of he new year in April. They became know as "April fools."
In honor of April Fools' Day, we have a few words of Jamaican wisdom:
If you follow a fool, you're a fool yourself.
Today, have a fun April Fools' Day, but use your common sense and don't follow after foolish behavior that might end up hurting someone or damaging something.
Help your children to have a positive test-taking experience by following a few tips!
Get Enough Sleep
- Most children need 9.5 - 11 hours of sleep per day.
- Sleep ensures that your brain and body are rested so you can process information clearly.
Eat Breakfast
- Eating breakfast provides you with enough energy to get you started for the day.
- Eat a breakfast that includes carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.
- An Example of a good breakfast might include, fruit, milk, cereal, eggs and toast.
- A good breakfast will keep you feeling full and focused.
- Try to avoid sugary foods like doughnuts, cookies, fruit drinks and/or soft drinks
Dress Appropriately
- Wear your uniform and bring a sweater or jacket if you think you may get cold.
- Glasses! If you wear them, bring them!
Be On Time for School
- Remind your family that you need to be dropped off on time - leave the house a little earlier than normal.
- If you walk, give yourself enough time - don't rush!
- Go right to class and get settled.
- Be ready to start testing on time.
Remember - all your friends are testing too!
