Mercury is thirty-six million miles. It does not have any moons. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. One year on Mercury is worth eighty-eight Earth days. One day on Mercury is worth fifty-nine Earth days. Mercury is the smallest planet. At night it can get as cold as -320 F.

Mercury got its name because of how fast it orbits around the sun. It is named after a Roman god of speed. Mercury is the color of a potato. It has almost no atmosphere because the air is very thin. It is very small only 3100 miles wide. The weather on Mercury depends on the time of day. During the day it is hotter than an oven. Mercury's surface looks like the Earth's moon. The crater's near the planet's poles have ice.
