Plympton Family Update
October 20, 2023
From the Interim Principal
Hello Plympton Families,
This week our Kindergarteners, 1st, and 2nd graders were treated to a visit from Waltham's Fire Department. The firefighters explained fire safety to students and what to do in an emergency at home. Our penguins were very behaved and asked excellent questions!
Here are some important reminders to help keep all students safe and the building running smoothly:
1. We love to celebrate our students at school! However, families may not send in food to be shared with the class. Here is an excerpt from the WPS Wellness Policy: "Parents and staff may not send or bring in any snacks to be shared because every school has children who have severe, life-threatening allergies of all kinds. No child shall be put at risk to have an allergic reaction from foods brought into school. For all school celebrations or events, during the school day, food free parties should be enforced to align with the WPS Life Threatening Allergy Policy. The full policy can be read here Waltham Public Schools Wellness Policy.
2. When your student's after school dismissal arrangements change, please send a note to your child's homeroom teacher. If you prefer to email, please also include our fabulous secretary, Mrs, Conneely, at meghanconneely@walthampublicschools.org. Mrs. Conneely and Officer Dani double check every bus list every day and cross check with Champion attendance to be certain kids are getting to correct location after school. Please make every effort to communicate any changes as early as possible. Calls after 2:30 slow down our dismissal process.
3. All student must ride the bus they are assigned.
4. All volunteers must be CORI-ed and any volunteers who will be working with students without a staff member present must also be fingerprinted.
5. All flyers shared within this newsletter must first be approved by the superintendent's office.
There are many exciting things happening at Plympton through our library. Please be sure to scroll through this newsletter to see all the flyers!
Vocabulary Day has traditionally occurred on October 31. This year it will be held on March 8, 2024.
Next Wednesday is an early release day for conferences. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you haven't already done so to schedule a conference.
Go Penguins!
Sincerely,
Adrienne Norris
Interim Principal

Food Services
From our Food Services Intern:
My name is Elise and I am an intern from Merrimack College working in the Food Service Department here at Waltham Public Schools. I am pursuing my Masters degree in Nutrition and Human Performance to become a Registered Dietitian. After working in athletics in another public school system, I decided to switch my focus to nutrition to help educate and empower the next generation when it comes to health and wellness!
I am letting you all know that we have organized a special taste test at Plympton Elementary School on Oct 23rd. This is part of our Farm Collab program where we partner with local farms to provide fresh produce in school meals. We will serve delicata squash smiles with parmesan cheese for everyone to try for lunch that day! In addition to the taste test, I will be visiting some of the classrooms to teach a short lesson about food groups and why eating a variety of foods is so important!
