ELEMENTS OF ART

Line

An element of art defined by a point moving in space.Line may be two-or three dimensional, descriptive, implied, or abstract.

Shape

An element of art that is two-dimensional, flat or limited to height and width.

Form

three-dimensional artwork has depth as well as width and height.

Value

Value refers to the use of lightness and darkness in a piece of artwork.

Color

Color is the element of art that is produced when light, striking an object, is reflected back to the eye.

Space

Space is an area that an artist provides for a particular purpose.

Texture

Texture, is another element of art, is used to describe either the way a three-dimensional work actually feels when touched, or the visual "feel'' of a two-dimensional work.
