Claires Court Bulletin

With the lovely weather that we have had today, I thought I would present the majority of the Head’s words in pictures!

As I am sure you are aware this has been Food Awareness week and the boys have had the opportunity to sample a variety of tasty and healthy foods from around the world as well as create some beautiful posters on the topic Our theme has been ‘give it a try’......and they really have! Ostrich, dried fruits, olive bread, Indian delights - I wouldn’t be surprised if the waistlines have grown a touch! In assemblies we have discussed what a balanced diet actually means, and not necessarily McDonalds, Dominos and Kentucky Fried Chicken which were suggested by some of our pupils. I was actually very pleased with the knowledge all of our boys showed about how important eating sensibly is, please let me know if they are putting it into practice at home!

What with cricket tours, Bushcraft expeditions, Year 5 and their Forties Experience, Year 4 Chembakolli day, the unveiling of Reception’s new Ice Cream Parlour and our cricket matches, we have had an extraordinary week. However, I would like to thank in particular our Year 4,5,6 athletes who competed against 27 other schools at the ISA London West Region Athletics championships. There were some quite brilliant performances from the boys who were selected to attend, and this comes off the back of a great deal of hard work, extra training at lunchtimes and determination by both boys and staff not to settle for second place. And they didn’t have to. Claires Court Junior Boys won the whole Junior event, and the Claires Court Senior teams also won meaning we were the overall winning school. A wonderful achievement. The fact that the boys did this with such a modest, humble and graceful attitude just exemplifies how mature our pupils are. I must mention Ben Morgan in Year 5 who smashed the school record for his sprint event and won by a handsome margin. It was one of the highlights of the day, as were the relay races, and our teams won in all three age groups. Well done boys.

I wish you all a great weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all soon at one of our school events.

Hopefully our Summer Fete Programme made it safely home with the boys this week. We hope you've had a chance to read through some of the features, in particular our interviews with sporting legends and rising stars. Please remember to return the form to the office with £5 payment in order to purchase a family pass and to be entered into the raffle for the fabulous prize at Windsor Racecourse.

We've heard from some of the class reps that volunteers are still needed to man stalls at the fete. Without wanting to sound like a stuck record please remember these events only work with your support, so if you haven't already put your name down for a half hour slot we'd be grateful if you could do it over the next few days.

With some fantastic stalls and activities, including tennis and football coaching sessions, penalty shoot outs and bouncy castles to keep the kids entertained and our summer market square, bar and tea & cake stand for the adults, it should be a brilliant afternoon for all. All we need now is the sun!

Also just a reminder that we are looking for volunteers next Friday to help set up for the Summer Ball.

Our Rabbit this week is Dylan Bridges 3J and Edward Verstringhe 5G. Since joining the school in September Dylan has been a fantastic ambassador for our golden rules and Miss Jones was one of many staff who felt that his consistently kind and caring behaviour deserved recognition. Edward , as he has on so many occasions, helped others in their hour of need. Whether it be a new pupil or a cut knee. Edward is always there to quietly assist and offer encouragement. Both Dylan and Edward are worthy of the Rabbit this week.

Year One - Sum Up Healthy Eating and Food Awareness Week

"Today we tasted " Spicy foods". We tried, Samosas, Onion Bhajis , Vegetable Pakoras and some Mango Chutney to dip the food into.

We thought the Onion Bhajis were spicy and they made our mouths feel hot. The Samosas were delicious. The Mango Chutney was sweet and tangy!

This week has been amazing with all the different foods. Each day we have been excited to come in from break time to see which delights were in the classroom waiting for us to try.

A BIG BIG thank you to everyone who has allowed us to do this."
