East Knox County Elementary News
March 2019
Principals' Corner
Can you believe that we are in the final nine weeks of this fabulous school year? As the school year winds down, let's work together to encourage our students to finish the year strong and continue doing their important job of learning each day. Mrs. Woods and I have been so excited that on most days, we have been meeting our attendance goal of having 95% of our students present each day. We really appreciate our families who are encouraging students to come to school every day that they are not sick.
We are excited to announce that WBIR will be coming to East Knox County Elementary School on Wednesday, April 17th. We can't wait to showcase our school as the WBIR Cool School of the week, but we will have to be up early since the show is on Channel 10 from 5:00 am to 7:00 am. Be sure to watch WBIR that day.
Remember that we are Cougars who Care about each other, Always problem solve, Read and respond, and Engage in learning. Be sure to read 20 minutes every night.

Best Cafeteria Behavior of the Week
Congratulations to the following homerooms that have won “Best Cafeteria Behavior” as a class for the week. These classes receive 5 extra minutes of recess on Fridays as a token of appreciation from our staff for being safe, responsible, and respectful. Thank you to each one of these classes for being Cougars who CARE about being safe, respectful, and responsible at lunch.
East Knox Takes on the Read Across America Challenge 2019
Our goal was to read 1,582 books/chapters in a week to represent the miles across the continental United States. We read 2,292 books/chapters which put us over our goal by 710. Our class with the most books read was Mrs. Brown's Kindergarten class with 215 books. Our Read Across America Challenge assembly team was led by Grace Arnwine and included Isiah Collins, Lawrence Yanchuk, and Jake Coffey. Thank you to our Fifth Grade students for stepping up to lead our assembly.
