CANKTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Through a partnership with Acadiana Center for the Arts, Cankton Elementary third and fourth grade students were able to participate in the Teaching Artist Program. Third grade students created their own Blue Dog portrait using oil crayons, water colors, and collage techniques. Fourth grade students created a coastal scene using oil pastels and water colors.
Cankton Elementary held its first Family STEM Night. More than 300 parents and students visited fairy tale themed stations to complete STEM activities. Students were encouraged to wear their royal attire and accumulated gems for their crowns upon completing each station. UL Professor, Dr. Roxanne Bourque, and her students offered a Cajun storytelling and poetry station as well. Students received a fairy tale book for completing at least three challenges.

During the Black History program at East Elementary, Damien Papillion, Coordinator of Development Education at LSUE, along with Dafnee Chatman and Darisa Griffith, students at LSUE, sang uplifting song selections for the student body.

EUNICE JR. HIGH SCHOOL

Students in Mrs. Oberste's 8th grade math class at EJHS participated in a Systems of Equations review. Students collaborated on various problems and then used QR codes to self assess their answers. In addition, students took a formative assessment after the review in order to determine their mastery of the skill.

GLENDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Glendale Pre-K students have been studying the letter “L." Today they followed a recipe and made homemade lemonade!

GROLEE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Faculty, staff, family and friends of Grolee Elementary held an exclusive VIP Book Premiere for their 2nd grade authors on the evening of Wednesday, February 20, 2019. These 2nd grade students published three books titled: We are Grateful, Let's Give Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving. As the band played classical music, the first-time authors and their families strolled down the red carpet in their formal attire. The speakers for the night were Avonte' L., Kinley E., and Kaden T. Ms. Rakeal Williamson, a second grade teacher, showcased inspiring work of famous authors to end the night. Principal Brandon Singleton encouraged students to let this experience serve as an example that anything is possible as long as you set a goal, develop a plan, and execute that plan. This evening was made possible by the collaborative efforts of the 2nd grade teachers, Mrs. Ashley Marks, Mrs. Linda Gallow, and Ms. Rakeal Williamson.

Ms. Nelson’s class read Dr. Seuss’ Butter Battle Book. We then made butter and conducted an experiment to see if eating crackers butter side up or butter side down was better. The students discovered that it didn’t matter how you ate the buttered crackers, they tasted the same!

Sunset Middle School celebrated the January Panthers of the Month by serving breakfast to the students. They were recognized for going above and beyond.

Mrs. J. Storey’s students at Sunset Middle School observed the effects of a simulated oil spill on land, water, and wildlife. In groups, students tested different materials and tools used to clean up oil spills and evaluate them for their effectiveness.

Sunset Middle School participated in Jr. BETA State Convention 2019. Students were given the opportunity to strengthen their academic and leadership skills. Several students competed in various categories. We received the 2019 Gold Key Award. Eloy Ramirez placed 3rd in 6th grade Science qualifying to compete in Nationals in Oklahoma City. Our sponsor Deidra Zachery was recognized as a 5th year Sponsor and received a token of appreciation.

All students that scored Basic or Above & showed growth from the first Interim names were put into a drawing to win $10 gift card from McDonald's!
