Charles Ellis Montessori Academy, Week of January 31, 2022

Big picture

In the "Operations" of the day we are frequently driven by schedules, task-lists, performance data, and problem solving. Often we put this agenda/framework on our children, and like a surgeon on the operating table, we feel the need to dissect their day with probing questions. I ask you today to try a different approach. Sit with your child and reflect upon the positive aspects of your work day and the moments you are grateful for. Then "JUST BE" in your child's presence, "No Questions Asked". Respect the child's mind space. Slowly, when you model this approach you will find that your child will begin to graciously offer insights into their inner-self and who they are becoming.

Car Rider Dismissal

Dismissal begins at 2:55pm. We usually get through the car rider line by 3:15pm. There should not be anyone waiting in the car rider line before 2:30-2:45pm.

Please note: Savannah PD and/or campus police may start issuing tickets to anyone who is "stacking" or blocking parked cars on 49th Street. This is a safety issue...emergency vehicles must be able to get down the street, if needed.

Thank you for your help and cooperation with this matter.

Lost & Found

You can view the current lost and found items at this link.

If you recognize an item, please tell your student to go to the ramp outside the multi-purpose room (MPR) to retrieve their item. Please leave the hanger.

*NEW* Student Illness Notification Form

In an effort to expedite the student illness reporting process, an Ellis Student Illness Notification Form has been created that you will be requested to fill out when your student is feeling ill. This form will take the place of calling/emailing Nurse Chris.

After we receive your form response, a member of the Ellis Covid Contact Tracing Team will contact you. Do NOT bring your student to the school building before an Ellis staff member contacts you.

Contact Tracing Team:

Rebecca Burkhart (rebecca.burkhart@sccpss.com)
Wes Cooper (wesley.cooper@sccpss.com)
Lisa O'Donnell (lisa.odonnell@sccpss.com)
Beth Whalen (elizabeth.whalen@sccpss.com)

In addition to completing this form, please contact your student's teacher so that they are aware of the situation and so that they can provide you with information about school work your student can do at home, if appropriate per the situation.

This form is available for future reference on the Ellis website.

Vaccination Cards MUST be on File

The current SCCPSS Covid-19 protocol states that, if your student is vaccinated for COVID-19 and they do NOT have symptoms, they do not need to quarantine at home if they have been a close contact (15 combined minutes over a 24 hour period) to someone with Covid-19. Please refer to the attached flowchart which is on the Nurse's page of the school website.

However, we MUST have your student's COVID-19 vaccination card on file in order for your student to avoid getting sent home if they are identified as a close contact.

If you have not done so already, please email a photo of your student's vaccination card to Nurse Chris (christine.oboyle@sccpss.com) and Mr. Wes (wesley.cooper@sccpss.com).

  • When I do what is good for me and other people--not just what is good for me--I am acting with Self-Discipline.
  • When I stop my hurtful thoughts, feelings, words, and actions from hurting myself or hurting someone else, I am acting with Self-Discipline.

From the Clinic

Please review the flowchart on the Nurse's page of the Ellis website.

Please note:

Nurse Chris' email address has changed to christine.oboyle@sccpss.com

If your student is classified as a "Close Contact" with someone who has COVID-19 at school, you will receive a phone call from someone on the Ellis Contact Tracing team.

  • If your student is vaccinated and identified as a close contact, you will be notified, but you will not need to pick them up right away.
  • If your student is NOT vaccinated, you will be asked to pick them up immediately.
  • Whether your student is vaccinated or not, you will be sent a letter via email outlining further instructions including when you should get your student tested and how long they should quarantine.
