“Rescue & Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship”
On Monday, March 9th we are extremely lucky to be hosting Jessica Kensky, her husband Patrick Downes and their service dog, Rescue. They are the co-authors of the book, “Rescue & Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship.”
Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes were married in 2012 and were injured during the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. Rescue joined them several months later. Their story has been featured by many national media outlets as well as in feature films and documentaries, and their inspiring efforts to educate the public by sharing their personal stories of healing have touched millions of people around the world. About Rescue and Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship, their first picture book, they say, “We hope this story inspires you to celebrate others the way we have been celebrated. Making this book has been therapeutic, and we hope you enjoy the story as much as we enjoyed telling it.” They live in Cambridge, Massachusetts. ~ Taken from Candlewick website.
This link will give you more detail about Jessica and Patrick’s book, and an article, video, activity guide, and a teacher’s guide to use with the book.

Message from Health Office
It was our students first week back at school after February vacation. Illness identified in the health office and reported by parents since break include: Flu, Stomach bug, Conjuntivitis (pink eye), Strep, Croup, head lice, rashes either viral or bacterial, and viral fevers/cold symptoms. Please remember if your child has pink eye, that they should have at least 24 hours of antibiotic treatment before returning to school. If your child is found to have lice (pediculosis) please advise the Health Office so that we can check your child after treatment and upon return to ensure limited spread in your child’s classroom. Also please adhere to school illness guidelines: if your child is experiencing flu-like symptoms please remain home from school and activities for at least twenty-four (24) hours after being fever-free without medication.
It is important that families reinforce proper hand hygiene at home as well as school. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, if unable to wash use alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
Allergy Season:
Allergy season will be starting soon. This winter has been mild and it has been forecasted that this allergy season will be a bad one. It is important to start your child on their prescribed and Physician recommended allergy medication/treatment prior to allergy season starting.
Clothing:
We continue to let students borrow clothing when they have accidents and/or get their clothes wet at recess. We would like to remind you to please store an extra pair of clothes/shoes in your child’s locker for times like this. If we do not have clothes available that will fit your child you will be called to come to the school to provide a change of clothing.
Refillable Water Bottles:
TES Health office continues to discourage students from drinking from the water bubblers. Please supply your child daily with a refillable water bottle.
General Information
We would like to take this time to inform you that on March 25, 2020 Pre-School and Kindergarten students will participate in a dental hygiene presentation that is offered by Sugar Bug Dental in Chelmsford.
Hearing and Vision screenings throughout the school are almost complete. We are still working on a few screenings that were missed due to absences/conflicts, etc. We are planning on conducting 5th Grade postural screenings this April, you should expect to see a letter sent home with more information on this in the near future.
As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact TES Health Office!
Message from Central Office
As many of you are aware from news outlets, there is a heightened focus on “Novel Coronavirus,” which has officially been named by the Center of Disease Controls (CDC) as 2019-nCoV. The CDC is providing daily updates and recommendations that may be accessed at: https://www.cdc.gov
Further, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health has compiled a Novel Coronavirus Fact Sheet that may be accessed at the following link: https://www.mass.gov/doc/english-2019-novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-0/download
While this is a public health concern, the CDC continues to report that the immediate risk to the general public remains low at this time. Yet, in today’s connected world, with a large number of district families traveling during school vacation weeks, the potential for infectious disease is always a concern. As with seasonal flu and other communicable illnesses, there are general precautions we can all take to remain as healthy as possible.
-
Practice good hand hygiene. Wash your hands often and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
-
When coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue. You can also cough or sneeze into your sleeve. Throw used tissues in the trash and immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
-
Avoid sharing drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, dishes, towels or other items. Wash these items thoroughly with soap and water after use.
-
Avoid close contact with people who are sick whenever possible.
-
Practice other good health habits: Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when
someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food. It is important to keep children home from school when they are ill. For guidance on when to keep your student home, please refer to
the following sick day guidelines: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1J_69ewivcUKUaMd2FtxVu1xUIABPFC4X/view?usp=sharing
The Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is an evolving situation that we are following closely and will continue to update you as information is shared with us. Please rest assured that we are monitoring student health concerns. We are in close communication with the local Board of Health and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health/School Health Unit. Our School Facilities Department is cleaning our educational spaces as we typically do during cold and flu season. We are following all recommended guidelines to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
We remain committed to student and staff wellness and will continue to share new information with you, as necessary, about this evolving situation.
Thank you PTO for another amazing event!
