W. A. Porter Elementary School

W. A. Porter Elementary School was named after Woodburt Andruss Porter. Mr Porter grew up in Fort Worth, and was the son of a Methodist minister. He graduated from Southern Methodist University and received a master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

After teaching and coaching, he became principal of Birdville High School when all grades were located at one campus. When West Birdville Elementary School opened in 1951, he became the first principal of that school, the first school away from the central campus.

Mr. Porter went to work in central administration during the 1956-57 school year as the Business Manager for the school district and he held this position until he died suddenly in January, 1970.
