Did You Know.....

Each week I try to call out one thing about our school or staff that parents and student's may not know...

On students' birthdays they get called to the office and receive a pencil, eraser and a coupon for a free cookie at lunch. More importantly, they get Mrs. Azhir to sing to them. See below!

Global School Play Day

Wednesday, February 3 was Global School Play Day. Many of you know how I feel about the importance of play but just in case you don't, here is a short synopsis.

Play is an important part of growing up and learning. We may well learn more about life through play than we do in all of the academic books you are subjected to in school. We learn social skills, character, collaboration, creativity, manners, rules, and many other positive characteristics that we all want for our children.

In case you're interested, here is the link to GSPD2016

Below are some pictures. By the way, I heard this from our students more than once - "This is the best day ever!"

Join Our St. Baldrick's Team

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives. This year's Lawrence event will be held at Amalfi's on March 12, 2016.

Slackwood is sponsoring a team and Mr. Billy is the captain. We would love to have more of our Slackwood families involved. Please click on this link to join our team or donate to this amazing cause.

Check out this video with Hayden Clark (former Slackwood Student) who was the force behind starting our team years ago

I know Mr. Billy doesn't have any hair but he promises to let it grow for a month before the event so you can see it all shaved off on the day.

We Need Your HELP!

As you know, the school day starts at 8:00. Students actually have work beginning at 7:45. We need your help to make sure that students get here on time. If they arrive at 8 or later, they are missing out on instruction and are interrupting other students and staff. Just the other day we had 12 students arrive late and have to sign in. Five of them are kindergarteners. That means that someone has to stop the work they are doing and walk them out to the modular.

Please try to get your students here early. If they are here right at 8 o'clock we will accept them but they are actually late because work starts at 8. At 8:01 they must come to the front door and a parent must sign them in. THANK YOU!

Slackwood Represents and Celebrates

Each year Slackwood School participates in the township Memorial Day Parade. This year, the Township is celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor and the 25th Anniversary of Desert Storm. If you are a Slackwoodian parent, grandparent or family member, we and the Township would like to recognize you during the parade. Please contact me at and we will make you part of this celebration.

Missing something? Check out the Lost and Found!

Each day I walk by the Lost and Found, which is directly across from the library and I wonder, "How could someone not know that they are missing a winter jacket?" Do you wonder that too? If you are missing clothing, including gloves, hats, sweatshirts, gloves, etc. make sure that you check out the Lost and Found.

One way to avoid having things fall into the abyss is to make sure you write your child's name on clothing items. If there is a name on it, we'll be sure to get it back to them. Put it on the inside tag or collar. Anywhere we can find it will be helpful.

Slackwood Elementary School

Slackwood is the oldest school in the Lawrence Township Public Schools. We provide education for students in grades Kindergarten through third grade.
