Huddled up in 3rd

Mrs. Delehanty's Weekly Newsletter

What We're Learning This Week:

In Math, we will finish up addition and move into subtraction. Rounding will continue to be practiced throughout our lessons. There will also be a daily math homework page that they will have time to complete in class if they choose. The students are doing an AMAZING job responding to the daily Edmodo question and earning Dojo points.

Reading/Language Arts

We will be having many minilessons this week to monitor our comprehension, ask questions while we read, expand our vocabulary, and build our fluency while finishing our current novel, Frindle. Information about October's book project will be sent home Tuesday, and I have already added a copy on Edmodo in case you want to take a peek. This month's genre is mystery, and we will be creating a story skeleton out of note cards, paper, or posterboard. We will select our books in the library and all friendly letters will be completed in class. The students are welcome to use any materials for this that I have in class if they like and will be shown many examples of previous projects.

The LA concept for this week is common, proper, singular, plural and possessive nouns. It will also be their skill for this week's Reading log.

We have wrapped up our Science tools unit and are moving into the physical properties of matter. I have many exciting investigations planned for this week that should make for some great pictures. Please continue to check Twitter for our pictures throughout the day @huddledupin3rd.

Social Studies

We have finished Celebrate Freedom Week and are moving into how to be a good citizen at home, school, and in our community. I've uploaded the Bill of Rights videos onto Edmodo for you to see if you haven't already checked them out. The kids had so much fun making up songs, raps, and skits. We will be working on the computers this week, so if you haven't turned in your access form, please do so as your child will not be able to log in.
